From the looks of it, I MAY be the only male reviewer posting definite for this movie, but of course I only read the first several reviews, not all 300 plus. I saw Newsies when it first came out in the movies. I have it was a double feature, with Aladdin or something, can’t remember which. I guess I was around 17. I’ve always been a actual Disney fan, and I do cherish many musicals. This was an instant classic for me, sort of a male version of Annie, which came out a decade or so before, and is also suited. And I seem to retract that Annie and Popeye, two faves of mine, sort of marked the waste of live-action musicals. A sincere shame. Newsies proves that colossal musicals can calm be made, but it also proves that it can catch some time for most novel people to admit they like it. The epic is about the 1899 strike of the Novel York paperboys. The central characters are Jack Kelly, a streetwise orphan played by Christian Bale(the main reason most females fancy this movie), and David Jacobs, a kid from a more stable, family lifestyle. Through the course of the strike they build on, the two boys become unlikely best friends, and with the other Newsies, learn about loyalty, friendship, and believing that they can work together to fight for a better life. The songs and music are magnificent. I’m particular about that stuff too. Don’t trust professional reviewers like Leonard Maltin, whose reviews are inconsistent at best. Objective when you deem he’s got capable taste from reading one review, you lose all faith in him by reading another. Reflect this movie for yourself. If you don’t like musicals, don’t bother. You have to esteem musicals to luxuriate in this even a limited bit. And I don’t mean objective stuff like Oklahoma or Dr. Dolittle. If you loved Annie, this might be a pleasurable one for you. A shrimp more adult than that, but not remarkable. Don’t interrogate to peruse many female characters though. Ann Margaret has a exiguous section as one of the kids’ few adult friends, and there’s the character of David’s sister, purely there to display a savor interest for Christian Bale, impartial so someone would have a cherish interest. She’s not spectacular, but she IS cute. Bill Pullman does a mammoth job as a reporter trying to assist the Newsies win some publicity. This was the first time I ever saw Bill since Location Balls, though I wasn’t really keeping track of his career. I’m so jubilant to hear this will be on DVD soon. And I hope they release more of Disney’s leisurely 80’s, early 90’s stuff on DVD. Like Dick Tracy! A visual masterpiece! And my current movie of all time, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, is badly in need of a Special Edition DVD! Such a spectacular film and we didn’t even come by the movie trailer promised on the box! Anyway, as for Newsies, catch the soundtrack too! Immense music! I bought the soundtrack abet when the movie came out! Unfortunately it was on tape. Gotta replace that with a CD too!

“Newsies” is a very fun filled movie based on dependable events of the newsboys strike. Its educational, but it does not lack in fun. The choreography amazes, and astounds me. The music is wonderfully save together and catchy. I salvage myself singing it throughout the day. The lead characters Jack Kelly played by Christian Bale, puts on an extraordinary performance (The ladies will plunge for him mercurial, I know I did) as the leader of the Newsie pack who first decides to go on strike, his friend David helps him by giving him the words to say to open it, and stands by his side to aid fight for their rights. Its touching and it fills your heart with excitement and joy. Don’t miss out on this fantastic musical. One of Disney’s absolute BEST! I first saw it when I was 12, and I loved it then, and I Worship it now! Go seek it, You won’t regret it.

I should have known when I saw this was a follow on from Fairytopia that I would be disappointed. This is the sage of Elina, who in the movie Fairytopia saved her country of Fairytopia and gained her wings. In this she is sent an urgent message from the Prince of Mermaidia (who briefly appeared in Fairytopia) who asks for her to attend him. The movie is tubby of the trials and tribulations she goes through for him, along with his girlfriend Nori. I quiz it is deliberate they have named the Mermaid heroine after Japanese Edible seaweed but it seems ill-considered.

Anyway – the friendly things about the movie, it is brightly coloured, and the costumes for the characters are handsome, when Elina becomes a mermaid she looks unbiased aesthetic. There are really nice messages in this – about overcoming jealousy, selflessness, sharing and the power of team work. Some of these messages are laid on with a trowel, but on the other hand it is for young children and I mediate the message needs to be strong. And lets win precise here, the movies aren’t aimed at adults. However I thinksome of hte best movies are those that can easily be watched by Adults and children together – and the best Barbie movie (I assume) was Princess and the Pauper where I serene obtain it easy to sit down with my kids and peek it. I wish Barbie movies would bag serve to that sort of profitable, singing fun.

the things I found difficult is that although there was a strong basic epic (getting the immunity berry) the whole thing was quite confusing for my under 5 year olds. There is so mighty going on that they expeditiously lost track of what was happening and who was who. There were too many characters and they all seemed to have marketing tie-ins – lots of mer-ferry’s, snails, mermaids, turtles, dolphins – the list went on and on. The overall tale which seemed to initiate it all seemed a used notion from the inaugurate. Some of the characters faces were too engrossing. In the early Barbie movies there collected seemed to be a semblance of reality, but the merferries and so on did seem oddly characterised, almost like Japanese Anime. Perhaps it is something children like, but I buy the passe animation, certainly the mix of the two was unsettling at times. Lastly, there is a moment when Elina and Nori secure marks of courage which seek like tatoos – call me conservative, but I don’t want my under 5 year extinct even thinking a tatoo is frosty – no matter what compose it takes.

There were some genuinely genuine moments in this film and despite its faults my children have watched it a couple of times, but it doesn’t really interest them in the intention that the early dancing ones (swan lake for instance or Princess and the Pauper) I really hope the next movie planned is one of these sort.

I caught this today with my 4-year-old daughter on the Slash premier, and she loved it. And honestly, it wasn’t too difficult for me to sit through either. Having seen, and owning, every Barbie movie that has near down the chute, I can say that this was by far the best of them, and will be picking it up on release day for myself.. er, my daughter.

A Eulogy and a Care For Song

“Of Time and the City” is director Terence Davies’s esteem song and eulogy to Liverpool, England, his birthplace. But it is also more than that; it is his response to the memory, reflection and experience of losing his sense of station as things change and time marches on. This is a personal film as Davies goes attend to his youth and he remembers what Liverpool was like after World War II. Davies was raised in working class Liverpool and suffered from guilt about his homosexuality.

In the film, Davies satirizes Liverpool in its aspirations of being what it isn’t and shows us how extreme he feels the architecture is. He gives us Britain of the 1950’s with kids playing outside and trips to the seashore. We gawk footage of hurry down houses and of the Korean War but overall this is a study at failed urban development position to music and undeniably sentimental. Life, loss and Liverpool are the focus of this poetic documentary.

The film is a bit difficult to portray but it is handsome to peep. It is an essay effect on film which is a study at memory. Almost 80% of the film comes from archival sources and Davies has labored to bewitch out the most effective of these. His behold is exceptional and his ear mixes sound to the shots we watch.

Davies very obviously loves Liverpool and misses the Liverpool that was. He also is mad about what went on in his life there. He openly gives us his resentments and his infuriate. He tells us his rage over being raised Catholic and of organized religion. He doesn’t like the monarchy either. He speaks openly about the treatment of gays and the laws against them in England. However, upon else, the film shows how Liverpool molded him and we glimpse how lucky we are to have him.

A beautifully made film, fanatstic expend of shadowy and white footage and a poetic commentary. Pure film making by a devotee of film.

Hailed by critics as one of the more significant films of the 80s, “Colors” nonetheless is a fairly straightforward tragedy–there’s no other direction for the legend to win. Robert Duvall plays a old-fashioned police officer working L.A.’s mean streets; hothead Sean Penn joins his Smash anti-gang unit, predictably testing the elder partner’s patience and reserve as he objective tries to preserve the peace and obtain it through that final year to retirement. Both actors bring more depth to their cliched roles than might be expected, playing off each other surprisingly well, even in moments where they are given petite more to do than react. But “Colors” offers no staunch answers to anything. The cops are presented mostly as well-armed zookeepers, while the gang members, blessed with youth and health but not noteworthy brains, race violently about, making the yarn mostly a series of aimless confrontations. Art imitating life? Maybe. But careful audiences might feel they’ve been bamboozled, despite director Dennis Hopper’s rather lofty catch on it. With some scenes that are genuinely tragic and gripping–the shooting of an unarmed suspect and the movie’s final scene, to name two–and a romantic subplot that deserved more time–Maria Conchita Alonso seems to fair rep warmed up as a dreadful girl flirting with the belief of being good–”Colors” seems to have more going for it than it really does. Contemplate it mainly for the performances and the suggestion of complexity.

Dennis Hopper presented an unseen vision of Americana with EASY RIDER in 1969. It unsettled the masses. He did the same almost 20 years later with COLORS, a frightfully realistic eye at urban gang warfare in Los Angeles. Hopper has always been a talent, both in front and slow the camera. COLORS could only be handled by the likes of an independent spirit like Hopper: It’s tough, brutal, no watered down studio gloss, no techno effects. Hopper is an actors director and Robert Duvall and Sean Penn are a perfect fit. The oft told cop legend of the musty and the novice gets an injection of original life: the partners don’t like each other, they tolerate each other for the sake of survival. Duvall and Penn give strong expected performances and the fable rifles along free of expected cliches. Ice-T, in his rapper days (pre LAW & ORDER: SVU) is featured on the soundtrack.

I have mixed feelings about this expose, but ultimately, it’s substantial. My 3 year conventional daughter loves it. She asks to scrutinize it every day, which is where my mixed feelings arrive in. I’m radiant sick of it. But if you’re looking for a demonstrate your puny girl will want to leer, this will work. It has a very short scary piece, but my daughter, who is skiddish and makes me snappy forward through scary parts of OTHER movies, is NOT paralyzed during this one. I like the message too, it’s basically about helping someone in need. And it’s not too long, about 40 minutes.

My 5, soon to be 6, year dilapidated daughter loves all the Holly Hobbie DVDs but this one is her hands down approved. She adores the song where the Hey Girls try to hump away summer boredom by pretending they are French Fashion Models. These dvds do tend to have kind of fun, catchy songs and this one is no exception. I like the Holly Hobbie dvds because they are basically wholesome without being too sappy. They relate top-notch values like helping others, respecting elderly people, and dealing appropriately with conflict, be it between siblings or friends. They may have a couple tense moments but really couldn’t be called scary. They are a excellent procedure to balance out they abundance of fairy epic princess stuff that overwhelms the girly dvd market with something a petite closer to proper life. We like princesses, too, don’t fetch me obnoxious, but it’s nice to have something that doesn’t involve any magic spells or generically ravishing princes for a change.

“The Horseman on the Roof” opens in Aix-en-Provence in July, 1832, as Austrian secret police hunt down two Italian revolutionaries operating from exile in France. At that time, a vast chunk of northern Italy was under the control of the Austrian Empire, and Metternich’s spies regularly scoured Europe sniffing out and assassinating opponents of Austrian rule there. This movie revolves around Angelo Pardi (played by Olivier Martinez), one of the two revolutionaries.

Fleeing from the Austrian agents in Aix, Angelo goes out into rural Provence, where he hastily finds an even worse enemy: a massive cholera epidemic, “the worst in a century”, says one village doctor. As the epidemic spreads, mass hysteria follows in its wake. Rural Provencals launch to hunt down perceived “empoisonneurs” (poisoners), innocent people accused of contaminating the water (a scene accepted in French history) . Angelo himself is attacked as he drinks water from a fountain while coming into one town. Here Gerard Depardieu makes a nominal appearance as the town’s police chief on the hurry, who says rightly, “The cholera’s a bitch, but this is worse.” Angelo ends up hiding from the mob in the house of the ravishing Madame de Theus (played by Juliette Binoche) .

The main chronicle takes off when the army comes in and moves the entire town out into the countryside to sit in quarantine. There, Angelo runs into some of his exiled Italian friends, who have a risky mission for him: atomize through the quarantine lines (he could be shot for doing it), dauntless the epidemic, and swagger to Milan with two bags of money to attend finance a rebellion against the Austrians.

This task would be hazardous enough, but Angelo’s chivalry snags him into taking Madame de Theus alongside him on a wild lag in search of her husband, who vanished when the cholera broke out. Does she procure him? Does Angelo produce it to Italy? Do the Austrian spies approach serve into play? I’ll leave that for you to procure out.

Jean-Paul Rappeneau did an outstanding job with this film. The cinematography is salubrious and includes some dazzling shots of the stunning landscape of Provence, ranging from the appetizing Rhone valley to the majestic Hautes-Alpes. (Yet it also leaves a downhearted aftertaste unhurried and proves that Provence can be honest as unfortunate a location as anywhere else in Europe.) The acting is convincing, and so is the location. Five stars and more.

This is such a pretty movie, it leaves me speechless.

The scenery, the light, what a splendid country the south of France is. It is a appreciate legend that takes plot in the mind. No bed scene. But I negate, you won’t be bored for a second! If you haven’t read the current (which you should do) you might consider this to be some kind of Musketeer-Disney stuff. It isn’t – not only because it takes residence in another century. There is enough adventure, fighting and horseback riding to beget this one a movie for both of you to relish, you and your girl. But it also gets so distinguished deeper. The actors explain you care for can stand the test of time. It can even grow through afflict. This one gives you strength and hope that things might gather better.

This is a gracious film in which the star of the film is a violin known as “The Red Violin’. It is a tale that begins in Italy in the slow seventeenth century and ends in the twentieth century. The violin is crafted by an Italian violin maker for his unborn child and is a work of sheer esteem. The viewer sees this distinctive red violin fade in time, as it becomes an integral allotment of the life of a variety of owners, transcending culture, bustle, class, and talent. It ultimately ends up as an offering at an auction house.

The chronicle is told in a series of intricately woven vignettes that are justaposed to the past and reveal in a series of well placed flash backs and flash forwards. The past is situation in seventeenth century Italy, where the viewer sees what happens to a master violin maker’s blooming pregnant wife and unborn child. The note is site in the twentieth century at a posh auction house in Montreal, Canada, where a host of characters, who have a connection to the red violin’s fabulous and mysterious past, have gathered to direct upon it.

The film is a lushly attractive one due to its considerable cinematography. The music is glowing, its impressive soundtrack made so by the superlative playing of violinist, Joshua Bell. The acting is uniformly stellar. The vignette of nineteenth century Victorian England virtuoso, Frederick Pope (Jason Flemyng), is wildly sensuous and erotic. There is even an quality of mysticism about the film, as the epic in Italy begins with a fortune teller’s predictions, which the violin maker’s pregnant wife mistakenly thinks is about her, when in reality the fortuneteller is foretelling the future that lies in store for the red violin.

In the twentieth century, Charles Morritz (Samuel L. Jackson) is an expert violin appraiser who has an appreciation of the now legendary red violin and covets it. While authenticating it for the auction house, he learns the secret of the distinctive red varnish that earns this instrument its sobriquet, though the viewer will, no doubt, guess its origin, long before he does. Morritz also does something that ensures that the red violin will conclude with one who appreciates its value, so that the violin will have almost approach bulky circle. In the kill, all the elements near together beautifully, as the director, Francois Girard, deftly and seamlessly, weaves the violin’s past with its demonstrate. There is not one discordant tag in this richly complex and colorful film. It is simply a masterpeice. Bravo!

Fans of the French section “Tous les Matins du Monde” (Alain Corneau, 1991) will devour this creation of French-Canadian Director Francois Girard, whose prior forays into film include documentaries bewitching Bach Cello suites and television specials starring cellist Yo-Yo Ma. It’s no wonder then that Girard was able to purchase the sheer majesty and fascination of the violin; in this film we follow this captivation through the centuries. Samuel L. Jackson plays Charles Morritz, an expert in antique musical instruments. The tale opens with Morritz’ arrival at an auction, where a very notable and new Bussotti violin is being sold. As the film flashbacks throughout periods of time in the violin’s history, we visit its making in Cremona, Italy, its burial in the hands of a young Austrian prodigy, the musical career of a Victorian virtuoso, and its banishment from Revolutionist China. As Morritz studies the famed instrument, he unearths deep secrets about its origin, and must face the ultimate jam himself: “What do you do when the thing you most wanted, so perfect, objective comes? “

The music, level-headed by John Corigliano, won the 1999 Academy Award for Best Win. Violinist Joshua Bell (who also starred in the 1999 film Music of the Heart, playing himself) provides the music of the Red Violin, and was able to acquire the different centuries as if he had played in them himself. The allotment of the Austrian music teacher Georges Poussin, played by Jean-Luc Bideau, is especially appetizing in its comedic undertones; also not to be missed is the tarot card reader who is setting up the story; her role ties the film together and gives it the continuity needed in this kind of format. Overall it is a very gripping film plump of passion, music, and history.

Based (very loosely) on a character created by legendary sword and sorcery fantasy writer Robert E. Howard, comes Red Sonja (1985), imbued with powers of mystical origin and seeking justice and revenge for the wrongs perpetrated upon her and her family by an imperfect warlord queen. The film, directed by Richard Fleischer, who also did Conan the Destroyer (1984), stars Brigitte (I was married to Sylvester Stallone once) Nielsen as the title character. Also appearing is Arnold Swarzenegger as Kalidor, a Kindly warrior who aids Sonja on her quest, and the glorious Sandahl Bergman (she appeared in Conan the Barbarian as the warrior Valaria) as the injurious Queen Gerden. Other primary appearances include Ronald Lacey (you may remember him as Toht from the film Raiders of the Lost Ark) as rank henchman Ikol, and Paul L. Smith (Bluto from the Robin Williams Popeye movie) as Falkon.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Red Sonja! Click Here

The film begins by relating the black memoir of Sonja and how Queen Gerden and her forces wiped out her family, supposedly I guess due to the fact the Queen wanted Sonja in some capacity (girls gone wild indeed) but Sonja refused. Left for listless, Sonja is visited by a spirit of sorts, which gives her literally gives he strength to embark on a quest of justice and revenge against the harmful queen. Also, it seems the queen has stolen a noteworthy, carefully guarded, lovely orb suitable before it was meant to be destroyed, one that has powers of its’ beget, allowing for the possessor to control elemental forces and call down storms and earthquakes, if they so wish. Kalidor, one of the individuals in set to oversee the destruction of the orb, joins forces with Red Sonja, as their paths may differ, but they ultimately lead to the same residence. An impudent, young prince named Tarn and his guard/manservant Falkon, whose kingdom was unceremoniously wiped out by Gerden as a test for her newfound powers, soon joins them. Will this runt band of adventurers be able to discontinuance Gerden and slay the orb before the combination of the two destroys the world?

Alright, there’s no denying this film has many problems…the movie basically came into existence to leech off the successes of the most proper Conan the Barbarian (1982), and the lesser marvelous sequel Conan the Destroyer (1984) . Why they honest didn’t earn another Conan film is beyond me, but I guess it was for the best, as, like Conan the Destroyer, this film garnered a PG rating, seriously hindering the level of violence inherent within the unusual Robert E. Howard stories. There is noteworthy violence and killing in this film, but it’s extremely watered down, unlike Conan the Barbarian (which had an R rating, and was more faithful to the source material in more aspects than one) . It’s amusing, but if you scrutinize the trailer for this film, you’d reflect Arnold Swarzenegger was the star, as he was grand more prominently displayed over Nielsen, but this is not a Conan movie. I did like some elements about the film. I view the sets were very well done, and quite vast. There was a few times when they seemed a bit too great, like in Queen Gerden’s throne room…it was certainly salubrious for an sinful queen, but was it really primary to have skeletons hanging around? I mean we know she’s rotten, but that seemed like overkill. The costumes were marginally well done, with the fighting scenes a bit better, specifically the swordplay (I don’t judge Swarzenegger understood the what it mean to go half-speed, as he seemed to really lay it on at times, swinging his substantial weapon, sword, that is…) . The weakest fraction of this production has to be the script. The dialogue is so incredibly lame, and often resorts to having characters either verbalize the sure, or save forth moronic questions and/or statements that made me groan. Also, the tiny comedic bits of dialogue didn’t encourage either, as they were so poorly done and seemed quite unnatural and completely out of character. Someone else mentioned Nielsen’s idiotic mullet, and I would agree, but I belief she did all honest with the fighting sequences and the more athletic maneuvers, but the scenes where a stunt person took her region was quite clear at times. I normally don’t care great for children actors in films like this, as they invariably raze the mood, but the kid playing Prince Tarn wasn’t too awful. Maybe if he had better lines, who knows? Bergman as Queen Gerden was genuine, but completely two dimensional and was passed off as a power hungry warmonger with sapphic tendencies. The place was lovely straight-forward, and moved along well, but I was annoyed with the whole premise of some of the central characters learning lessons, like the young, snotty prince learning the value of humility and self-sacrifice, and that of Red Sonja, who suffered at the hands of Gerden’s men at the beginning of the film, that not all men are abominable and there is more to life than fighting, like like…I didn’t mind that these elements were incorporated into the fable, but I felt like I was being slapped in the face with it…Howard would do this in his books, but with a subtle professionalism nowhere to be seen here. Overall, the story’s not so hot, the acting so-so, the costumes, scenery, special effects and fighting all dazzling helpful, with the best element being the unusual musical fetch by Ennio Morricone…had the makers of this film had a better script and more material befitting an R rating (as in Conan the Barbarian), we might have really had something here.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Red Sonja! Click Here

The wide camouflage print here looks dazzling pleasurable, and shows almost no signs of age or deterioration. The only special feature is an modern theatrical trailer, but I really wasn’t expecting worthy more. If you like the 2nd Conan film, you may luxuriate in this, but otherwise you might be better off renting instead of buying. You’ll thank Crom…

Cookieman108

Firstly, anyone who takes this movie seriously has got a whole lotta issues! I like this movie! I grew up watching Red Sonja and thinking she was the strongest, coolest spruce karate warrior swordswoman on the planet! There are moments when it seems as if the entire movie honest sort says “ok, that’s all we got” and shows the surrounding country for map too long, (which is why I gave it 4 stars) but it was the 80’s, people! If you’re reading this review honest now you’re about 20 years too unhurried to judge the “special” effects are anything less than ridiculous! In an attempt to be fair, however, it is not quite worth the retail value effect.Pay less for it or you’ll feel kinda dumb (Best Buy- 6 or 7 dollars!) but no matter what, if you want a cheesy movie to sit and create fun of, and you’re in the mood for some serious sword-swinging chick fight action, this is it! Purchase it- if nothing else, it’ll add a microscopic spice to your dvd collection!

Here’s a highly predictable, yet cute romantic comedy. I have to wonder if these sorts of situations actually occur in loyal life, but they seem to happen all of the time in the movies. Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) is a columnist at Composure Magazine. She writes the “How To” column intended for a female audience (Composure is similar to Cosmo or Glamour) . The column she agrees to write for the unique month is “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”. She has to obtain a guy and open dating him, but intentionally gain all the classic mistakes that women build in relationships. These mistakes will cause the guy to dump Andie in 10 days or less, which is objective in time for Andie to enact her column and win it published.

Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey) works in advertising. He is very advantageous at what he does, but he is known for working on “guy” related campaigns. Ben wants to land his company’s largest client, a diamond company, but he is seen as not having the apt expertise and style for it. Ben is very sterling at selling himself and convinces his boss that he can collect any woman to drop in like with him (being able to do this is similar to being able to sell diamonds, apparently) . His boss gives him ten days, until a party that his boss is throwing for the unusual client. Benjamin has to be able to explain to his boss that the woman he brings to the party has truly fallen in worship with him.

Out of all of the people in Unusual York City, Andie and Ben are going to meet at the perfect time to launch dating and try to work out their conflicting assignments. “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” is incredibly predictable, but it is mild an luscious movie. Nothing is a surprise, but it is cute and slick and Andie and Ben are two very likable characters. Definite, the movie is not very plausible and not very realistic, but cuteness and likeability goes a long plan.
