Documentary about the lone man who stood before the tanks entering Tiananmen Square during the June 1989 pro-democracy demonstrations. He is then pulled help into the crowd, either by friends, fellow demonstrators or government forces – no one knows for clear. And no one knows who he was, to this day.

The only reason the photo exists is because of western journalists taking clandestine photos and reporting to the outside world, at the inquire of of the protesters, who were convinced (and probably rightfully so) that the government would conceal up everything. Indeed, the harmful photo of the tank man was hurriedly hidden in the toilet tank of a Beijing hotel room by the photographer, who knew the authorities would go door to door looking for film of the horrific massacre happening in the square below the surrounding buildings. The photographer was able to sneak benefit to the hotel room and catch the film canister aloof in the toilet tank.

1989 was a large year for communists – a astronomical year of endings that is. Five weeks of protests throughout China culminated in Tiananmen Square (June 3 – 5, 1989), and the government wasn’t positive if it should negotiate with the student protestors, or acquire a hardline near. Tiananmen Square is the largest public square in the world, designed to expose the dominance of the dwelling over the teeny individual, who means nothing. And as the world soon saw, Chinese authorities turned the People’s Army on its absorb citizens, treating them like nothing.

Martial law was declared by authorities, and the army was ordered to retake the square. Live, battlefield ammunition was issued to the troops (some 300,000 of them), who proceeded to fire on unarmed citizens. No one knows how many were killed, and it’s doubtful the Chinese authorities will ever release a upright count. The Chinese Red Execrable at one point reported 2600 killed and some 7000 injured, but quick retracted that number under government pressure. The government has claimed only 200 exclusive people were killed (and has made no official mention of the thousands arrested after the protests and either sent to labor camps or executed) .

After the demonstration was crushed, tanks rolled down the Avenue of Eternal Peace in a exhibit of set power. And that’s when “tank man” stepped out in front of them. The tanks stopped. For one brief moment, everyone on all sides unprejudiced stopped.

The photo of the tank man made its draw around the world, and inspired hundreds of other pro-democracy rallies. (Remember that later in the year the Berlin Wall fell.)

This PBS documentary is a favorable overview of the events of 1989 in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China. It explains the genesis of the June showdown and the mistakes made on both sides. My only quibble with the documentary is the lack of information about the Tank Man. The title of the film suggests that the film’s focus will be the Tank Man, but its not. It does what it can to observe the Tank Man and discusses the impact of the Tank Man, but does dinky to sure up any of the mystery. The film appears to want to procure out more about the Tank Man, but when it couldn’t it shifted its focus to the events in Tiananmen Square. To be pleasing, I’m determined the journalists tried but were unable to bag any unusual information because of the Chinese repression of news and the media in general. China has repressed information for so long, that I don’t judge we’ll ever know anything definitive about who Tank Man was and what happened to him. And maybe in the long bustle, it’s not considerable. The image of the Tank Man says more than any film or book and that image will last longer than any repressive regime ever could. Our children must be taught the lessons of Tiananmen Square so that image will continue to resonate and have meaning.

Lincoln is probably one of the toughest individuals to retract. Once you contemplate you have him understood, something else about him comes out of the woodwork to invent him more elusive.

Interestingly, this production allows us further insight to him in a fresh, sunless perspective at times. This production probably isn’t correctly named as it’s not about Lincoln in the complete build, but it takes a considerable darker, closeted come to explaining the man.

I reflect many people were taken aid a bit by this production and were expecting something lighter, more glad and triumphant about Lincoln but instead this film is the opposite. I can’t say it was totally negative, it unbiased offered weird, original insight and possibilities to this complex character. What this prove tried to enlighten was unprejudiced how some of Lincoln’s motivations, considerations and mind situation were developed from earlier boyhood years and dealing with depression.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Lincoln! Click Here

I wasn’t too alive to on some of the considerations of Lincoln and possible suicidal tendencies. Unfortunately, this production focused a lot on negative things about Lincoln shading him in a dusky cloak with homely misery. It does offer gripping perspective, but the opinions stated are simply that. Opinions without fact. I know Lincoln had issues and had a lot of carry on his shoulders throughout life although I don’t believe he was so distraught, fearing and suicidal as this documentary portrays.

Done in an MTV-like style, and accentuating the negative, this program will do diminutive to give insight into Lincoln’s greatness. In fact, you will approach away thinking he was a loser. Mary Lincoln is similarly lambasted.

The documentary jumps aid and forth with no apparent continuity or reason. In addition, many of the commentators are either openly hostile towards Lincoln, or are high-handed and eliteist.

Unwanted political/religious view from Gore Vidal also leaves one with a rank taste in one’s mouth. This should have been left on the cutting-room floor, having no location in this discussion.

Zero stars would be more fitting.

The thing that immediately impressed me about “The Next Doctor” was that you don’t necessarily have to be a long-time fan to luxuriate in it. But for those viewers who ARE faithful followers of the traveling Time Lord (myself included), it’s a aesthetic combination of elements that have traditionally worked in Doctor Who stories. The episode is paunchy of action, humor, pathos, better-than-average performances, and a sense of wonder that has long been missing from t.v. science fiction.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Doctor Who: The Next Doctor! Click Here

[SPOILERS AHEAD] The Doctor is happy to obtain himself in Victorian England at Christmastime. He is soon surprised, however, to encounter another fellow claiming to be “the one, the only, the best” Doctor. With his hold companion, sonic screwdriver (sort of) and TARDIS (a unbelievable twist which I refuse to spoil), this Doctor is man with some crucial memories missing. What the Trusty Doctor finds out about this mystery man is tragic yet engrossing, and touches on the whole history of the series. Oh, and did I mention the Cybermen are on-hand as well?

The entire production is well-behaved, from the gorgeously-realized snowy streets to the impressive spectacle of the Cyber King on the march. Guest star David Morrisey is so fine in his role, you almost wish he WAS the next Doctor. And like the best of the new episodes, the resolution is both satisfying and leaves you wanting to perceive more.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Doctor Who: The Next Doctor! Click Here

As with the season sets, “The Next Doctor” includes an hour-long documentary on the production. These “Doctor Who Confidential” programs are fairly breezy and informative, and are certainly a welcome addition for hardcore fans. Casual viewers may procure the bustle time a bit long. . .after all, with an hour to demolish they might simply occupy to see another episode!

I have no doubt that BBC will eventually release all the one-off specials featuring David Tennant in a box plot when all is said and done. But if you can’t wait, “The Next Doctor” is a perfect arrangement to pass the time.

… and it’s not a faulty account. I’ve seen worse.

Plus, most of the Christmas specials are filled with fluff anyway, in keeping with the holiday spirit. That being said, this narrative is a fun bit of Christmas cheer, although it lacks depth on some levels, but I’ll serene line it up with the other Christmas specials for Christmas morning viewing. I will say though, I understanding the Cyber-Shades were kind of creepy and I hope they bring them wait on at some point. On the other hand, the Cyber-King “ship” was a bit too mighty on the cheesy side for me, and while I first relished the character of Ms. Hartigan, she completely crashed and burned into the cheese fest.

Another thing that stirred the bee in my bonnet was the Rosita character, and I’m going to say something that a lot of people ~ especially fans of the current series ~ won’t like: Enough with Rose Tyler, already! I mean, reach on. Bleeding hearts of the world unite! Enough with the references, the inferences, the parallels, the longing, the tragedy of it all, etc. The writers, including Russell T. Davies, whom I happen to actually worship, being a writer myself, have beat this like a tiresome horse and to a bloody pulp. Yes, we know the Doctor has vast affection for her; yes, we know he can never be with her, but let’s proceed on. Please.

It’s for this reason that I am really anxious for Steven Moffat to win the reins of the series ~ and in a arrangement, I’m tickled there’s a modern Doctor. I fancy David Tennant and I judge he’s been absolutely bright ~ good up there with, if not surpassing, Tom Baker ~ but this whole, galactic playboy thing (as further evidenced in Planet of the Wearisome) is wearing thin. The character of the Doctor is NOT Captain Kirk and he is NOT about romantic baggage, thank you very remarkable ~ and I’m saying that as a chick, who initially loved the character of Rose and her deeper friendship with the Doctor. It was different than the classic series, with a tiny more humanity thrown in, instead of the icy, androgynous, teacher-student, master-apprentice dynamic. But enough.

There, I said it. I feel distinguished better now.

On the upside, David Morrissey’s portrayal of “The Doctor” was quite fun to peer as a romanticized, chivalrous version of our celebrated Time Lord, and some of his dialogue and interaction with the sincere Doctor was thrilling, thinking that this might honest be a future version him, with memories lost. Alas, ’twas not meant to be, which is kind of a bummer, because I reflect Morrissey would have made a large eleventh Doctor.

On the whole, though, it’s a fun limited frolic ~ not on the A-list, but rather on the B-list, in the canon of the Whoniverse. But like I said, I’ve seen worse, and as we tick down the days and months to David Tennant’s departure, I do feel a definite sadness. He’s been MY Doctor of the revived series, unbiased like Baker was in the classic, even though I loved Christopher Eccleston, too, and I will be gloomy when Tennant leaves.

But hey! Viva la Doctor! As one chapter ends, another begins. And that’s what the Doctor’s legend is all about!

I absolutely loved this anime when I saw it, but I cannot and will not give my approval to a simple and sleazy marketing ploy. There are 4 episodes in all, each 30 minutes long. They took the path of the greedy and attach 1 episode on each tape or dvd. Personally, I couldnt care less how they market tapes, but one of dvd’s strongest points was media size. Even with all the whiz-bang animation and video quality (which is quite helpful), I dont doubt for a second they could fit all 4 episodes onto 1 disc. They coudlve made it a “flipper” or attach it onto 2 discs if they felt image quality would be compromised. It objective makes me sick that they would do this. Oh yeah, fyi, the music is some of the worst in the not-too-stellar history of anime music. Overall, frigid yarn, immense utilize of cell/cgi animation, nefarious marketing, wrong music. A pass, unless its in the bargin bin.

This four volume series is exceptional–I like it as distinguished as Macross Plus with the drama, the dialogue, and of course, the action and mechanical designs. Computer graphics and cell animation merge seamlessly. The characters are deep and diverse. The setting is similar to Voogies Angel and Agent Aika (or Waterworld) , while the theme of a scientist creating human-animal hybrids or mutants reminds me of The Island of Dr. Moreau. Even though each DVD is only about 30 minutes long (this last volume is longer), as long as I don’t pay more than twenty dollars this collection is worth it. Cartoon Network is going to expose this series Nov 6, but for best recount quality this is best enjoyed on DVD. The dubbing was done by Coastal Carolina–my current sound studio. This series gives not only ravishing graphics and dazzling explosions, but asks the nature of humankind’s tendency for conflict and violence.

The dialogue is horrendous, the effects cheesy, the music (not the soundtrack which is huge, but the acquire) indescribably bad. It looks like a made for TV movie.

However- I can’t cessation watching it. i saw it 3 times in the theater and pre-ordered my occupy copy. It entertains me. Plus, Edward is nice to explore at… oh, James too. Esteem James. To me this movie is absolutely hysterical- where it doesn’t intend to be. The scene where Edward first sees Bella in class and he looks as if he may throw up on her??? Gargantuan! The study that Billy Murky and Edward exchange as they pass each other in their cars? Priceless. I worship the baseball scene! But the crouch down and prepare to fight stance they buy at the waste… Can anybody say Power Rangers? But objective mentioning all this makes me want to survey it again. I know it makes no sense. It impartial has that power.

I should be embarrassed to like this, but I’m not. I will see it over and over again proudly. I will recommend it to anyone I can. Peek it and savor it. But know that it’s awful and know that it can’t compare to the book and that all of it’s charm is due to it’s cheesiness.

I had heard about the fantasy books by a friend when they first came out but didn’t have the time to behold into them. By the time the movie came out, I’d nearly forgotten about the book referral, but asked my hubby to occupy me as it looked like a obliging vampire romance flick. The scenery of the Pacific Northwest forests, rivers, and coastline was breathtaking and as a native to this region, it was like going out into my beget backyard which made the film that more attractive. I was so captivated by the actors portrayal of the characters (the facial expressions and emotions brought out of the characters by Engage, Kristen, Peter, Nikki, and the rest were mesmerizing) and the depth of the back-story left me desiring more! The very next day after viewing the movie in the theater – I raced to the bookstore to grab the first book. I was zigzag, read through all four books (plus went to the authors website to read the extra materials she had posted there) in a week. Then, quiet not blissful, went abet and saw the movie several more times – IN THE THEATER, something I’ve never felt compelled to do before – because I was so drawn to the characters and the epic. This may have been written for the young adult audience but I’m 32 and a parent of four children, and tranquil found the yarn to be well worth my time.

If you haven’t read the stories, I befriend you to do so. Regardless, this film will be a treasured section of your movie collection and one you’ll be definite to peep several times before you’ll feel jubilant.

Here he is shown in a French documentary creating recent dishes, a unusual menu, for his restaurant. It’s one of the few places that the chef’s creativity is on tubby expose. “Without doubt, one of the most hysterical parodies ever!”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Team America: World Police – Unrated! Click Here

Given the original world political climate, Trey Parker and Matt Stone hit the ball just out of the park with this film. I haven’t laughed so hard so frequently in a theater in years! This was simply improbable.

The sheer goofy ogle and movement of the deliberately low-tech puppet bodies, combined with their high-tech heads and incredibly clarify sets, makes for some truly classic moments. When the World Police thoughtfully swoop down to seize out a handful of terrorist, while simultaneously destroying noteworthy of the surrounding city in the process, you can’t encourage but laugh at the irony. Can you say “collateral wound”?

Buy,Download, Or Stream Team America: World Police – Unrated! Click Here

And the overly extended scene of the two lead puppets spirited in the obligatory sex scene had me laughing so uncontrollably that I view they’d have to engage me out of the theater on a stretcher. Oh my Lord was that humorous. It was one of those rare movie moment that had me laughing days later unbiased thinking about it.

Not only do Parker and Stone mercilessly crawl fun at the droll, over-the-top nature of definite Hollywood filmmakers like Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay (e.g., his nearly unwatchable “Pearl Harbor”), but they also consume the public personas of world leaders like North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il and practically feed them into a wood chipper. How this film didn’t spark an international PR incident with North Korea is unbiased improbable to me.

What makes their political edge so refreshing and sidesplitting is they’re willingness to consume on everybody, rather than merely bolstering a right- or left-wing conception. And the merciless scheme they go after Hollywood celeb-activists was profoundly comical. Too often I’ve been sickened by the overly simplistic mentality that comes from the mouths of sure actors when they exercise their situation as public figures to comment on the world affairs. Parker and Stone record acting notables like Penn, Baldwin, Robbins, Sarandon, and Garofalo as complete idiots, who are as easily herded about by Kim Jong-Il as so many sheep. Matt Damon is practically a troglodyte who is so humdrum that all his brain can manage is to say his name over and over again.

Like “South Park Bigger, Longer and Uncut,” this film has numerous musical numbers that are aged to punctuate the humor of various scenes. The song “America, F**k Yeah!” once again practically had me on the floor, especially when it was uses a second time but with a mighty slower beat. The level of adult humor and vulgarity here will probably not design this film first-rate for tiny kids, and powerful of the political edginess may be lost on most teenagers. But if there were a category for “Best Comedy Film,” Parker and Stone would both bag an Oscars, hands down!

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have a fresh ability to blend the nuanced with the distinct, to mix cerebral humor with cheap peep gags and fart jokes. If this appeals to you (seek an episode of “South Park” if you are unsure), and you don’t mind having your sacred cows slaughtered and made into taco fillings, this film is a must-see –for repeated viewings.

Mad dictator Kim Jong Il plans to subvert Hollywood and become the megaproliferant of the stars. Who can finish him? Only Team America, a gang of ultra-right fly marionettes who assume Run Limbaugh is suspiciously liberal. But don’t fret, conservatives: Hollywood pinkos and Michael Moore purchase a beating, too. Nothing is sacred to Parker and Stone.

Puppets were a indignant choice for a medium, but they are done hysterically. I don’t know what had me laughing more, the whiskey glass soldered to the team leader’s hand, or the view of the splinters and friction fire from marionette sex!

The sound track alone makes this film worth it. “Freedom isn’t Free” could have been a precise country hit and Kim singing “I’m so ronery” had my wife blowing her cola out her nose in the theater!

If you are straight-laced, have a abominable sense of humor and can’t admit it, or can’t laugh at yourself, this may not be you’re film. If you’ve got a slightly warped sense of humor, you’ll cherish this!

Average customer review:

Caligula is available for streaming or downloading.

Click Here to Stream or Download Caligula

Caligula, one of the most controversial movies ever made, is now available on DVD. This film was a dependable eye-opener for me, and the DVD is far trustworthy to the VHS that was floating around a bit in the ’80s (for all you people complaining about the quality, unbiased shudder to contemplate of how it mature to be) . The memoir of Rome’s outrageous emperor was probably not this wild in steady life, but this is Penthouse and as a result is chockablock with sexual scenes and graphic violence. Because Caligula is basically in every single scene, it’s hard for the other characters to obtain, but there are some quick-witted supporting players, and McDowell really delivers. It’s hard to possess his next film was to play the reserved, scholarly H.G. Wells (”Time After Time.”) He is quite a talented actor. The movie drags on and on, and sometimes the cinematography is unsafe, but other times it is monotonous on the money. The film is a bit grainy on DVD, but as someone else once said, this really contributes to the “gritty” factor. As far as realism, many of the sex scenes explore staunch, but I doubt the world has ever seen the likes of that purple-skinned four-eyed (or was it three-eyed? ) woman, plus the guy with all those extra digits and the siamese twins joined at the head resting at Tiberius’ palace. And how about the scene where Caligula “consecrates” that marriage…if that’s how it was, I’d never pick up married.

The DVD has these things going for it: the creepy music added to the menu (the same as the opening title with the quote from Price), the 30 chapters nicely divided up, the documentary about the making of featuring Gore Vidal and Bob Guccione (although in places everyone’s face looked arrangement too pale, but it was an ancient ’70s film), and the sound is far worthy to the VHS from what I can remember.

But this is Caligula and I would definitely not let anyone under 18 (or maybe even 21) eye it.

I will concentrate on the movie’s historical accuracy (or its lack of it), since the previous reviews seem to either have overlooked it, or claimed that it is “historically proper”, or on the opposite improper, that it totally ignored history.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Caligula! Click Here

“Caligula” does have some merit from the historical point of thought, surely already demonstrate in Gore Vidal’s unique script. It’s also very faded in many points.

The bare events of Caligula’s life and reign are actually quite right. It may surprise many viewers that most of the secondary characters – Emperor Tiberius, Senator Nerva, the praetorian prefect Macro, Tiberius’s grandson and Caligula’s rival for the succession Gemellus, Caesonia, Chaerea (who murdered Caligula), his sister Drusilla – were all historical and, as far as the facts have arrive down to us, their portrayal in “Caligula” was fairly correct, at least according to some old-fashioned authors.

Tiberius did retire to the island of Capri in his last years and did invite the elderly Nerva to join him there, and primitive authors do claim that he indulged in sexual perversions there. Nerva really committed suicide as shown in the movie.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Caligula! Click Here

The conversations between Caligula, Nerva and Tiberius, probably by Vidal, really judge contemporary views and issues – for instance, the deification of Julius Caesar and Augustus, Tiberius’s predecessors: Tiberius was totally cynical about the whole thing, whereas Caligula firmly believed it. Throughout the movie, many of Caligula’s lines approach straight from old authors.

On the other hand, Nerva’s comment on Caligula’s “gift for logic” seems to owe more to Camus than to traditional sources – collected, a nice touch, I understanding.

Tiberius’s abolish by Caligula and Macro, Caligula’s removal of Macro and Gemellus, his incestuous relationship with Drusilla, her death, his marriage to Caesonia, her giving him a daughter, his increasing tyranny, his farcical invasion of Germany and attempted invasion of Britain, and his cancel by his maintain guard – are all historical facts, and on the whole not too inaccurately shown in the movie.

On the other hand, the movie’s biggest weaknesses from the historical point of notion are (1) the map it *looks* and (2) the suggestion that Caligula’s and Tiberius’s depravity were somehow “normal”, fraction of Rome’s “decadence”.

The sets and clothes all perceive more like something from a Fellini film than from old Rome. Tiberius’s palace on Capri is perhaps the most unrealistic, along with that ship, and the execution machine – and countless details.

The clothes aren’t very realistic, either. Romans were more casual about nudity than we are today, and I assure that their clothes might vow considerable some times. But I doubt that Roman ladies would be as casual about parading half-naked as portrayed in the movie (I mean in normal situations, not the sex scenes) .

Moreover, it’s simply not upright that “orgies” such as that portrayed in the movie were celebrated among the Roman upper classes. Actually adultery – also on the fraction of males – was an offense punishable by death, at least for the upper classes (this didn’t mask prostitution) . The astronomical majority of the Roman senatorial class would, and did, collect behavior such as that of Tiberius and Caligula horrible.

However, Caligula’s in cognito wanderings through Rome after Drusilla’s death give perhaps for the first time in a movie a estimable impression of what primitive Rome actually was at night – unsafe, sunless, chaotic, where no person of means would venture without an armed escort.

I also enjoyed the see of what an emperor’s routine largely consisted of, with Tiberius and Caligula stamping their seal onto endless piles of official documents.

“Caligula” was obviously intended to be mainly a pornographic movie – Bob Guccione made certain of that. But it also, at some point, was intended to have a core of historical accuracy, which is why Gore Vidal was asked to write the script.

This core is collected prove in the movie, and it’s not moral that you don’t learn anything of Roman history by watching it.

But of course, I know that that’s not what most people will glance it for. So perhaps Guccione was upright.

I must admit that when I first went to seek Mouln Rouge in the theaters, I was most reluctant. It looked cheesy to me, but I kept hearing trustworthy things about it. So finally I went, and was blown away. This movie, from a writing aspect, breaks no modern ground, but visually,it is extraordinary. The fair thing about film is that the same legend can be told over and over in different styles. And Baz Luhrman’s style is most definitely novel. The movie pulls you in from it’s opening moments, and rarely lets go. I did obtain the movie slightly over-indulgent at times, as though Baz was throwing determined visual effects in for the sake of throwing them in. But the acting all around is fantastic, and the music is absolutely genius. Many may have a plight with what could be relate as a 2 hour music video, but I loved it. It is definitely geared towards the MTV generation, but I believe it can be enjoyed by all. All in all, it is the best movie I have seen in a long time.

At a time when movie-goers reward high budget, formulaic, Hollywood concoctions, I am grateful for this creative, unconventional, genre-defying movie. By genre, I don’t mean musical or drama. I mean film, theater, opera, circus. Somehow the director had so remarkable vision he managed to win so many unsavory elements (unoriginal appreciate sage, singing, dancing, so grand lace and ruffles, a bit of campiness) and turned them into breath-taking entertainment. The first time I saw it, it did unfamiliar things to my pulse, but it was the second time that I let myself be pleased it. I feel sorry for all the critics and movie-goers who expected it to be what movies are ’supposed’ to be and so didnt have anything to compare it to or knew how to describe to it. There really has never been anything like it. For those who have not seen it, I suggest approaching it as you would a roller-coaster perambulate (dont examine to be in control) .
