It is a pity that so many people are misled into buying the 1993 version or the Hallmark version of this book. The outmoded is significant as a view of wooden acting and wonderful dialogue. The Hallmark version (as usual) unbiased throws the book away–they can do it better. The 1949 version also “improves” on the book by turning it into a suspense-thriller in the first half and has all the characteristics of ’40s movies–phony characters, phony dialogue and mammoth stars.

This movie is for people who loved the book; and except for extremely minor flaws which most people will not ogle, this movie brings the whole book to life perfectly. Nothing is left out. Sarah Hollis Andrews gives a radiant performance for one so young. None of the California accents of the Hallmark version or the East European characters of the 1993 version. This is Yorkshire and this is Francis Hodgson Burnett, not Agnieszka Holland.

There has been an abridged version on the market for years, carve to produce it a full-length movie (100 minutes) . This reveal version is twice that length. Even if you have the abridged version, select this one and spy what a dissimilarity those cuts create. The characters are even more sympathetic and more steady, and there is time to deal more with all the other characters (the nurse, Dr. Craven, Mr. Craven, etc.) and more time for Mary Lennox and more interaction between Mary and Collin and Dickon.

In short, this movie is a admire and every child above the age of 8 deserves to observe this version. If you are a diehard and want to sight the other versions, dazzling, or if you’ve already been suckered into buying them. But secure this version. You’ll never leer those other versions again. And your kids will have an experience to carry with them the rest of their lives.

The oft-filmed Frances Hodgson Burnett new The Secret Garden was restaged for BBC television in 1975 Sarah Hollis Andrews stars as the insufferable brat who is yanked from her home in India and sent to live with her emotionless uncle. She is humbled by her equally headstrong crippled cousin, and humanized by the gardener’s son, who entreats her into his special fantasy world. As Andrews is taught the values of humility and generosity by “the secret garden,” she simultaneously warms her uncle’s cool heart. Not quite as account for as the illustrious 1949 MGM version, nor as accomplished as the 1993 Agnezia Holland-directed remake, this 1975 Secret Garden nonetheless has a charm of its fill.

This was first shown here in the USA on PBS in 1976 on the PBS series ONCE UPON A CLASSIC that was hosted by Bill Bixby. I remember watching SECRET GARDEN for the 7 weeks it was shown on this series.

Watching this on DVD brought tears to my eyes because its such a astonishing version and, it brings me assist 29 years ago when I first saw this.

When I saw “12 Monkeys” in the theaters, I idea to myself, “This is one of the greatest films of the past ten years.” Despite working with a script written by others and under some stringent studio restrictions, Terry Gilliam more than managed to infuse the sage with his trademark near to movie-making.

I had some reservations going in about the choice of Brad Pitt to play the role of a mentally unbalanced eco-terroist, but Pitt did a honorable job and really made the character his gain. (Viewers who like Pitt in “12 Monkeys” would probably do well to check out his performance in “Fight Club”. Tyler Durden is what Jeffery Goins could be if he were less manic.) Bruce Willis and Madeline Stowe also turn in terrific performances, especially Willis for whom this was one of his first non-action films. Fans of the mature “Batman” TV display will be amused to explore Frank Gorshin (the Riddler) as the chief psychiatrist at the mental institution were remarkable of the early fragment of the film takes plot. Christopher Plummer is not given great shroud time, but he does an top-notch job with what miniature he has.

As for the narrative itself, even though many people try to claim that it is about the line between sanity and madness(in the vein of Gilliam’s “The Fisher King”), I unprejudiced do not search for it as such. I never doubted Cole’s sanity, the future world was too sincere to invent me assume that it was a figment of Cole’s imagination. And if one did have that impression at first, there was too distinguished revealed early in the film to support that view. I bewitch to opinion the chronicle as an extremely intricate “whodunit”, where the viewer actually receives most of the information relevant to the conclusion by about half-way through the film, but in such a jumbled and contradictory manner that the suitable outcome remains obscure until the last 15 minutes. But of course, this being a Gilliam narrate, even after the conclusion is revealed, a final twist is thrown to the viewer. (Note: to bask in the twist, pay attention to the future scientists. I’ve known some people who didn’t peep closely and they didn’t understand the twist as a result.)

Setting aside the film, and considering the DVD, Universal did an first-rate job with this release. The documentary “The Hamster Factor” offers some expansive insights into both “12 Monkeys” and the movie industry in general. And the commentary track with Gilliam and the producer is very suited for plan the process of movie-making, as well as how specific scenes were spot up. My only disappointment came with the “Production Notes” feature. If you contemplate the documentary and listen to the commentary track, the production notes really honest command what you’ve previously learned.

Good Science Fiction (weather a book, a movie, tv, whatever) has the power to build us peer at ourselves as a society. The events in this movie metaphorically mimic events in our everyday lives. Even though we have not yet discovered time recede, all of the other events in this movie could happen, which is absolutely ugly. This is a sunless movie, not for everyone, which has a deep high-minded script and area (it may pick a few watchings to fully understand this one.) The cinematography, directing, and acting are astounding. Bruce Willis proves that he can do other movies besides his normal action type. He also proved it later in The 6th Sense, but I contemplate this is one of his best performences. As for Brad Pitt, it is his best performance. It’s so loyal that by the demolish, you’ll deem he’s crazy.

Another essential thing to heed is to acquire the DVD, but not the DTS one. The non-DTS version has an insightful long documentary on the making of the film, the DTS version does not have this. Plus the Dolby Digital sound is suitable in itself.

Most Highly Reccomended.

There is so remarkable to brag about in this movie it is hard to know where to commence.

First, Peter Sellers, probably the most talented film comedian of his generation, gives a bravura performance as a professional crook, Aldo Venucci, trying to perform one last stout get, The Gold of Cairo. His performance is so nuanced, hysterical (with the Italian accent) and steady, that he really IS the movie. I say that not to disparage the rest of the cast, who are all fantastic.

Second, the totally whacky script by Neil Simon is unusual, and so corpulent of amusing lines that arrive at you so like a flash, that you are in serious trouble of your sides splitting if you don’t stop the video in places!!!

Victor Customary, playing an over the hill actor who doesn’t consider he is, and Marty Balsam, his suspicious and totally furious agent, who tries to convince him that he is not as young as he thinks, are a terrific team and have their hold humorous chemistry.

Seller’s wife at the time, Britt Eckland, plays Sellers’ sister, a star struck young woman who dreams of being an actress. She is very excellent in her portion.

Akim Tamiroff, whose character stole the Gold of Cairo originally, adds a touch of Middle Eastern flavor and mystery to the movie. (Men … dig his sister. What a babe!)

There are some nicely placed barbs at the movies of Antonioni,

(there is one scene where they fair skedaddle each other, Eckland and Old) . When the agent (Balsam) asks the meaning of the whole thing, the director, Sellers, replies “No matter how expeditiously you accelerate, you can’t speed away from yourself.” The Dilapidated character throws a kiss at him and responds, “Incandescent!” If you’ve seen some Antonioni movies, you’ll understand the satire.

It is impossible to steal out one best scene, but one of my favorites is when Obsolete, Balsam, and Sellers meet in his hotel room to discuss to proposed movie, and Sellers receives a phone call. “Oh hello Sophia. My darling I told you there is no portion in my novel portray for you … Sophia please, you are getting hysterical …” At this point, he hands the phone to Marty Balsam and asks him to composed her down. He gets on the phone, and the next shot is in a phone booth, where one of Sellers’ cohorts is on the phone. When Balsam, comes on he hurriedly hangs up. Well, you have to discover it. But the whole scene is hilarious.

If you are a Peter Sellers fan, like ample comedy, you must have this film. I’ve viewed it countless times and it impartial gets funnier and funnier.

This is one of the best movies that I have ever seen. I am a fan of 1960’s style comedies. I would rate this as excellent to Peter Seller’s work in the Pink Panther series.

Every aspect of this movie is salubrious. This film had a most novel co-writing team: Neil Simon, one of America’s foremost playwrights and Cesare Zavattini, a major Italian laughable screenwriter. Also mark that Peter Sellers sings the title song, “After the Fox,” written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, along with the 1960’s rock group The Hollies. Vittorio De Sica, the film’s director, is better known as one of the pioneers of Italian Neorealist filmmaking.

Peter Sellers is at his best as an ingenius thief who is constantly in and out of jail, who undertakes a job to smuggle stolen gold in order to procure enough money to provide for his Mother and Sister.

The supporting cast was great. From the aging eminent actor, to the Fox’s sister, the Fox’s two henchmen, the Fox’s mother, the town mayor, the chief of police, the illustrious actor’s agent. Everyone was well selected.

Buy,Download, Or Stream After the Fox! Click Here

All scenes were EXTREMELY memorable & HILARIOUSLY funny: the italian restaurant scene where Sellers talks to a attractive woman with a man’s snarl, the 1st prison speed scene where Sellers tricks the guards, the 2nd run scene where Sellers tricks the guards, the interpol scene where they go through the list of suspected criminals (most of whom are at retirement age), the scene where he ad libs false movie scenes to withhold people busy while waiting for the gold shipment to approach (And now you are sitting…but not talking to each other…no talking!…and ACTION!)

The film is also eminent for it’s catchphrases: “Splendid Morning!” will forever bring a smile to your face.

For me there was also a personal connection: I felt like I was walking the streets of Italy in the 1960’s (roughly a runt after the time that my Grandparents had emigrated from Italy to Canada)

Please conclude whining about this DVD’s aspect ratio. It’s not “full-screen.” It’s widescreen with the recent top and bottom sections restored.

According to film historian David P. Hayes, THE STING was filmed in 4:3 (equivalent to “full-screen”) ratio because director George Roy Hill wanted it to glance like an archaic movie. The studio (and/or the exhibitors) apparently had second thoughts about it, though, so theatrically-released prints had the top and bottom sections blocked (”matted”) to fit the widescreen format.

What you peruse on this DVD is not “pan and scan” (with missing left and suitable declare), but the unusual format with the top and bottom restored.

I honest bought this DVD for my father because this movie IS a classic, no matter what anyone says. But, when it came in the mail, I was surprised to examine “Plump Shroud” on the front of the box. So I did what many of you did NOT do (with the exception of reviewer cammonro dated Sept 2, 2003), I went to the Universal web region and emailed their Home Entertainment division.

From Universal Studios Home Entertainment:

‘The Sting’ is only available on DVD in the 1.33:1 aspect ratio, which in this case displays the same describe information side-to-side as was seen theatrically. Also, more information is shown top-to-bottom than in the theatrical version because of the diagram the film was originally shot.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Sting! Click Here

One process musty in creating movies for theatrical exhibition is to status ‘mattes’ over the top and bottom of the 35 mm film frame to alter the aspect ratio to 1.85:1 ‘Widescreen.’ To avoid dismal letterboxing bars on the top and bottom of the narrate when it is displayed on standard television, the recent mattes are removed in a process known as ‘Open Matte.’ (This is not to be confused with ‘Pan & Scan,’ a completely different process of transferring film to Video and DVD.) ‘Open Matte’ was passe with in the production of ‘The Sting.’

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT. For all of you complaining about how this DVD is PAN-AND-SCAN, you are Contaminated. And for all of you quiet waiting for WIDESCREEN, you ALREADY HAVE IT with this DVD if you understand what Universal is saying above; you are actually seeing MORE than what you’d peer in the theater version because of the “Originate Matte” process Universal venerable, NOT pan-and-scan.

If anyone begs to differ with these facts, argue with the source, Universal.

About all I can say is this is a bootleg item. If you don’t care about the quality of the items you are purchasing then by all means derive this item.

I got this in a few days after ordering it so it got to me REALLY speedy. Shipping was a drag. It may not be an “dependable” item, however there are almost no problems with it. The disks have nice art on them, and the box itself it a shrimp bit uglier than the nice box sets however its a nice DVD box and such. The languages are English and Japanese with qualified subtitles. So far, after watching it (and yes, I HAVE seen the precise episodes as well so I can compare the two) the only thing that gives it away as lower quality is a limited shaking during the panning shots. This does not happen often and it has not detracted from the anime so far. With this becoming a harder to derive anime I say glean this unless your uptight about perfect quality. This is a really cheap and worthwhile alternative.

Here is a improbable movie that mixes fact & fiction, sometimes telling good events in a fictional device. All in all, however, it is a film that is well done & well worth viewing.

It is a fact that Attila did place foot inside the walls of Rome as a guest. However, it is fraudulent that he was the guest of Flavius Aetius while both were grown men. As a matter of fact, as a boy the two were “exchanged.” Atilla lived in Rome while Flavius Aetius lived amongst the Huns. It was then that Attila swore that he would return one day not as a guest of Rome, but as its conquerer.

It is dubious that Attila obtained a liking for the hot baths of Rome during his youthful sojourn in the city. By all accounts of the period historians, the king of the Huns lived a very simple and Spartan existence, despite the excesses of his officers and his extravagant wealth. Gerard Butler also portrays a bit more of a debonair and “GQ looking” Atilla than I ever imagined the historical Atilla. However, that is forgivable. After all, this is Hollywood, good?

Buy,Download, Or Stream Attila! Click Here

It is a fact that Valentian III personally murdered Aetius (abominable plan) in 454 A.D. As someone supposedly told Valentian, “With your left hand, you have reduce off your legal hand.” Also, the Romans did label a treaty with the Visigothic king Theoderic I to help in fighting the Huns. This was a reversal from earlier times when the Romans and Huns ganged up on the Visigoths. This is recounted accurately in the film.

All in all, this was an extremely friendly misfortune. It is very hard to indicate the dwindling years of an empire’s hegemony in 3 short hours. This movie does an agreeable job with the material at its disposal. The battle scenes are fairly well done, and they even pull off a passable battle of the Catalaunian Plains in the climactic sequence. However, the armies are a bit undersized; it speedy becomes evident that the film’s budget did not have the resources for an extensive consume of extras. But, the battle scenes are well choreographed & do present off the “tortiose” formation of the Legions.

After the death of Attila, Rome held on to her supremacy for a few more decades before finally seeing her empire proceed into the darkness. Rome was one of the greatest and most long-lasting empires the world has ever seen. It was people like Atilla and Shapur who helped push it over the precipice. As such, Atilla became one of the most feared, hated and respected men in all of history. Herein lies his anecdote.

USA network blurbs space Men Followed. Women Worshipped. Rome Trembled.

And Audiences Giggle.

Cross Lord of the Rings with a bodice-ripper romance and mix in a puny Gladiator and you have this two-part movie starring hunky Scot Gerard Butler as the marauding king of the Scythian hordes known as the Huns. The Romans called him the Scourge of God, and the exact Attila brought Europe to its knees, but Attila in this movie is played by Butler as a tormented man with a sexy overbite and some family dysfunction. There is intrigue and bloodwash aplenty. The Huns are depicted as a rather Celtic, not Asian, tribe, complete with wood sprite who delivers prophecies to Attila, King-Arthur style. These involve a gaining ownership of a sword, with which one rules the world. Okaaaay….

Decent, albeit comical, performances are given as Romans by Tim Curry and some other guy as emperor of Rome about this time frame (the year 452 or thereabouts) . Powers Boothe is Roman General Flavius Aetius who alternately conspires with and against Attila. The emperor’s sister, a hot-looking Roman princess in a corsety-type thing I am radiant obvious did not exist in that timeframe, seduces Attila in a bath, even though he’s supposed to be in care for with the red haired woman his tribe captured from a village. Men never change. Alice Krige as the emperor’s mother is considerable prettier here than she was as the Borg Queen in Star Rush but she’s bitchy and conspires against everybody, even her possess children.

Gerard Butler makes a sexy Attila, and he can invade my village anytime. However, he’s Scottish, and seems to be affecting some kind of unfamiliar accent here, where syllables plunge out of his mouth in an oddly non-commanding warrior map. Fearsome Attila gets his comeuppance on his wedding night, all moral, but not in the historically upright plan. But USA’s map is grand more romantic and candle-lit. Complete with great Attila wearing a diaper configuration.

Alas, history lovers will accept no ample interest here. However, if you are in the mood for swashbuckling in the Braveheart mode and eye-candy in the acquire of Mr. Butler, this is the movie for you!

2006 has been a still year for event films. The predicted blockbusters this past summer glorious powerful underperformed despite some being exactly as great as I understanding they’d be. Other than Johnny Depp and the gang’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dumb Man’s Chest, every blockbuster didn’t blow the industry out of the water. It’s a very advantageous thing that I had smaller films to tide me over. This year has been a very wonderful ones for some independent-minded and smaller films which came out during the expressionless first couple months of the year and during the graveyard release months between the slay of summer and the initiate of the gradual year holidays. I’ve already had the chance to contemplate such very obedient films like Running Stupefied from Wayne Kramer and Hard Candy from David Slade to The Proposition from John Hillcoat. I am tickled to say that Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation of Christopher Priest’s recent, The Prestige is another non-blockbuster that excites, entertains and, in the kill, keeps the audience mystified but not confused.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Prestige! Click Here

I’ve read Christopher Priest’s recent about dueling slow 19th-century London magicians. It’s a new written in epistolary format with each chapter and fraction written as entries into the journal of one of the main characters in the myth. The fresh itself is pleasing straightforward as it tells the memoir in arrive chronological order. I was hesistant to embrace this film adaptation when I first heard about it since alot of the mystery of of the memoir wouldn’t translate so well in film if they followed the strict order of how the record was told in the modern. For Christopher Nolan and his brother, Jonathan, to unprejudiced adapt the original straight-out would’ve made for a monotonous and slow mystery-thriller. I was contented that the Nolan brothers were inventive enough to borrow abit from Christopher Nolan’s first feature film, Memento. Their film adaptation of The Prestige doesn’t go backwards in its anecdote, but it does mixes up the chronological order of the chronicle somewhat, but not to the point that Tarantino does in Pulp Fiction and Extinguish Bill. The two Nolans fudges abit with the timeline to add some backstory filler to benefit give the characters that Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman portrays with the reason for their pathological obsession with each other.

Christopher and Jonathan Nolan’s screenplay for The Prestige was able to maintain the mystery of the record intact, but it also keeps the amount of red herrings in such films to a minimum. Michael Caine’s character, Harry Cutter, opens up the film explaining unprejudiced exactly what constitutes a magic trick on stage. How it’s divided into three parts. First, there’s “The Pledge” wherein the magician shows the audience something ordinary he or she will spend in the trick. Soon, the magician will follow this up with “The Turn” where the abovementioned ordinary object does something astonishing in front of the audience. The pay-off of the magician’s trick is “The Prestige” where the audience’s astonishment occurs as they fail to deconstruct and figure out the means of the trick. That’s splendid worthy the film in a nutshell. It’s one large magic trick. The clues are there for the audience to glimpse, collect and extrapolate their retort to the mystery that is the tale. The screenplay doesn’t treat the audience as if they need to be hand-held throughout the film. In fact, anyone who pays attention will be able to solve one-half of the mystery by the first hour. I won’t say exactly whose half of the mystery it will be but people will be kicking themselves afterwards if they don’t figure it out true away.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Prestige! Click Here

This magic trick of a film does have its many underlying layers of themes to add some complexity, drama and tension to the characters of Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) and Rupert Angier (Hugh Jackman) . I’ve already mentioned that throughout the film their mutual obsession about each other is due to a backstory detailing their past. A past where they were initially friends — rivals even — and apprentices to the magician Harry Cutter (excellently played by Michael Caine as the only scream of reason throughout the film) . Borden and Angier’s obsession is not honest in ruining and sabotaging each other’s magic tricks and lives, but also trying to pick up out each other’s secrets as they both learn magic tricks which amaze and thrill the gentry of London’s stage. From the beginning of the film these two characters open a lope towards a path of destructive behavior which puts not impartial each other’s lives at risk, but those who they care about. All of it in the name of humiliating and upstaging the other due to a tragic incident early in their mutual careers. These two individuals were not sympathetic characters and I applaud Christopher Nolan and his brother for not softening up their hard edges.

Most adaptors will try to acquire a story’s characters more sympathetic and likable. They went the opposite in The Prestige. But even these two dismal characters continue to exude the charisma and strong personalities that the audience will root for one or the other. Should they root for the charismatic and born shownman that Hugh Jackman’s Angier character plays or go for the perfectionist Borden character Christian Bale plays. A perfectionist whose technical skills surpasses that of Angier’s but whose introverted and brooding personality makes him dinky or no stage presence.

Both Jackman and Bale play their characters well. The film wouldn’t be so agreeable if it wasn’t for the work of these two actors. It helps that they’re surrounded by quality supporting character like Michael Caine as the seasoned, customary mentor to the dueling magicians. Even Scarlett Johansson does very well with the fragment she’s given. It’s a fraction that many sees as more of a throwaway character. A allotment of very good-looking distraction for both the sage and the audience. But she gamely plays the role of pawn for both Angier and Borden. Unlike Michael Caine’s character who remains the singular explain of sanity in the film, even Johansson’s character of Olivia gets pulled into the obsessions and betrayals that’s plagued both Angier and Borden. But in the waste, she’s unprejudiced share of the process of “The Turn” and if people have been watching the film closely correct from the beginning then she’s also a clue as to the secret of one of the astonishing magic tricks shown by the two magicians.

The Prestige also has a sure study about it. The 19th-century London unprejudiced before the originate of the unique millenium gives it a definite sense of Victorian-era familiarity. Production designer Nathan Crowley shows a London at the height of its Gilded Age, but soon gives intention to a determined steampunk view as inventor Nikola Tesla makes an appearance during an integral allotment of the narrative. David Bowie portrays Tesla as an eccentric genius whose search for the secrets of the universe will lead to the discovery of what many of that era would deem magic. It’s the ingenius looking technology created for the Tesla sequence which finally gives The Prestige it’s root in fantasy and science-fiction. The film doesn’t dwell on this modern development but from that piece of the anecdote and until the raze, the film takes on a explore and feel of a steampunk mystery-thriller. There’s not enough films that tries to mine this current subgenre and I, for one, am happy that Christopher Nolan added this unique dimension to the film’s overall inspect.

In the demolish, The Prestige really needs to be seen to be appreciated and for people to effect up their minds about the film. Some will recognize it as a thriller with twists and turns that doesn’t insult the intelligence of its audience. Some may spy the film as unbiased one tremendous gimmick from launch to raze. Those people will probably be proper as well. The film at its most basic level is one long magic trick with all three acts. It has “The Pledge” which is then followed up by “The Turn” and then ends with “The Prestige”. It will be up to each individual who sees the film to obtain the final decision as to whether they’ve bought into all three acts of the magic trick that is The Prestige, or approach away having felt like they’ve wasted their time. I’ve not arrive across many who felt like the latter, even those whose enjoy feelings about the film don’t near the same level of praise as I have for Christopher Nolan’s latest offering. All I know is that this is a film that delivers on its premise to confound and amaze. It also continues to validate my views that Bruce Wayne and Batman are in very respectable hands with Christopher Nolan at the wheel. The Prestige is easily one of the best film of 2006.

Like many other reviewers, I came into Christopher Nolan’s “The Prestige” with high expectations. He, thus far, has a splendid friendly track portray in my book. “Batman Begins” ranks highly among adult laughable book movies, but prior to that–he scored titanic with the sublime “Memento” and the underappreciated “Insomnia” (where, miraculously, he coaxed restrained performances from both Al Pacino and Robin Williams) . So teaming Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman in a dusky and twisty sage of obsession and revenge seemed like movie nirvana. And “The Prestige,” while not a perfect film, certainly provides its leads with robust roles and delivers worthy to like.

Set in the world of magic, two practitioners (Bale and Jackman) begin out together in an act devised by Michael Caine. When a tragedy strikes, Jackman loses his wife and holds Bale accountable. Though they go their separate ways, they never mentally disconnect. Jackman plots revenge, Bale retaliates and their lives become a complex game of one-upmanship–as each strives to be the better illusionist, to boast the better trick. The film is a sleek and horrible mechanism as rage and jealousy propel the action. While this has left some people feeling cold–there is no one to particularly root for–I found it refreshingly mean curious and believable. Jackman and Bale both give immense, passionate performances. Whether or not you like the movie, I deem it would be hard not to peep that these are two undervalued performers getting a chance to do some “great” acting. Caine is terrific, as always, and Scarlett Johansson is perfect as a woman caught between the feuding warriors.

As you might query from a Nolan film, there are some surprises–some tricks to be revealed in the film’s prestige. Now I have an recognize for movie “surprises,” I guess I’m too suspicious or analytical. I figured out one of the well-known surprises early on–but that didn’t lessen my interest in the film, I was unprejudiced as lively to study how it played out. The film is built in a multilayered flashback structure that is entertaining and rewarding. It adds to the dramatic revelations of the final act. But there is a science fiction element that is dropped in at the last moment. And while I know that the film is actually based on a sci-fi work, this was the least compelling aspect of the film. In fact, it might have ruined a lesser movie altogether. After so distinguished right emotion, such a incredible setup, so remarkable believability–this state twist lickety-split brings what was a broad film assist to earth as a well-behaved one.

“The Prestige” is a satisfying and adult treat. It boasts some of the best performances of the year, and is stunning and engaging to watch at. It’s quality filmmaking, one that is recommended despite the shortcomings of the final payoff. KGHarris, 12/06.
