Now, if you can deal with that, then “Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Collection” is the next logical step. It brings together two cartoon adaptations of Pratchett’s deliciously offbeat fantasy world — witches, Death, harmful kings, talking kingdoms, and music with rocks in. The animation is a bit rough, but the quirky characters and intricate fantasy plots originate it all worthwhile.

“Wyrd Sisters” starts on a stormy night. And three witches are abroad — factual Granny Weatherwax, tipsy Nanny Ogg and new-agey romantic Magrat. Elsewhere, the king is murdered by his scheming cousin Felmet, and remains a ghost haunting the castle of Lancre, and his baby son ends up in the hands of the witches. The witches immediately foist the baby off on a traveling band of actors (”He killed him! And suitable up in front of everyone!”), and retain an watch on the unusual royals, the mentally unstable Duke Felmet and his heinous, schemey wife.

Unfortunately, they also despise witches. As taxes rise and the witches are persecuted and blamed for everything that goes deplorable, Granny starts hearing odd cries out in the night — the land itself is dismal with Felmet’s reign. And to deal with this nutty usurper (”Is this a dagger I gaze before me? ” “No milord, it’s unprejudiced me handkerchief”), it will engage the most magic the Wyrd Sisters can summon up — not to mention a ghost, Death, and a long-lost prince…

“Soul Music” also opens on a stormy night, when Death’s daughter and her husband die in a fiery carriage smash. Her death nags at Death, leaving him wondering what the meaning of life is. And when Death vanishes, his young granddaughter Susan is summoned by the Death of Rats and a talking raven — turns out she has the power to do Death’s job. Meanwhile, a young aspiring bard, who renames himself Bud Y Celyn, leaves home for Ankh-Morpork, befriends a couple of other aspiring musicians, and ends up forming a rock band — with a peculiar magical guitar that instantly turns him into a “music with rocks in” star.

But that much guitar is also messing up the normal death cycle, and is exerting a odd power over the people who hear it — even the wizards of Unseen Academy are affected. And as Susan finds herself increasingly drawn to this tormented young musician, she finds that she may not be able to deal with the power of his guitar. But can Death himself do the job?

You can probably depend on anything written by or based on something by Terry Pratchett to be hilarious, well-written and deliciously unpredictable. “Wyrd Sisters” and “Soul Music” are no exception — both are quite faithful to the new novels by Pratchett, and are crammed with runt homages and well-loved characters, such as Nobby Nobbs, Ridcully, the Death of Rats, the Librarian, and many others.

And both stories assume awhile to unfold, letting events gradually construct up to a fair climax, and weaving intricate storylines with lots and lots of supporting characters. At the same time, he interweaves a lot of deeper questions into his storylines about savor, death and minding your beget business. And Pratchett doesn’t skimp on dramatic, intense scenes, such as Susan seeing what happened between her parents and her grandfather long ago, and the tragic results.

All this, and we collect to examine Nanny Ogg content the song about how the hedgehog can never be “whassnamed” at all. Yeah, there’s a lot of deliciously warped humor — a ghost misplacing his head, Granny’s undignified flight around the kingdom, the witches summoning a demon, Death’s searches for meaning (”I’ve seen the infinite… it’s nothing special”), and Granny’s inability to assume that the theatre is all pretend (”It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a theatre played properly!”) .

Here’s a warning — the animation is quite rough and lacking in dimension. Some of the characters are kind of goofy-looking, particularly the wizards, but it’s not the worst I’ve seen.

In fact, you don’t peruse the animation so noteworthy when you gawk the quick-witted characters. The witches are fun counterpoints to one another, and they have a castleful of deranged tyrants, weary Fools, whiny demons and one very bored royal poltergeist. And Susan comes across as a sort of younger Granny, while Buddy’s bandmates provide a sort of “real-person” presence. And the wizards are honest all crazy.

And Christopher Lee is simply perfect as Death, Discworld’s endearing incarnation of expiration. He gets all the immense lines too (”Oh BUGGER!” he exclaims as he drives off a cliff), and even a scene where he suffers from stage awe.

“Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Collection” suffers from some rough animation, but it has tremendous casts of likable weirdos and odd magics. Definitely worth checking out.

I watched Terry Pratchett’s “Hogfather” and enjoyed it very great. When I went on Amazom.com to order a copy, I found that Terry had other movies. I ordered “Wyrd Sisters” and “Soul Music”. Hogfather contained right actors. Unfortunately when I started to scrutinize the first of the other videos, I discovered they were in cartoon design (but not for young children) . I was somewhat disappointed, but unexcited liked the videos. I was foul by “Hogfather”.

All three movies are very similar. I care for British humor and they certainly fit the bill. In “Hogfather” there was so powerful going on that I had to glance it more than once.

In summary, I liked the movies very grand. If you do not be pleased the dryness of British Humor these movies are probably not for you

When thinking of my favourite Halloween films, this has to be at the top. It works on so many levels. A warm, loving, sage that fair demands explain viewing. Writer/director/musical composer/costar Frank LaLoggia did it his draw and it’s such a masterpiece. Ite shown as a flashback of Frankie’s life, and the ghost he met as a child. When he was 9, he was accidentally locked in the cloakroom at school on Halloween night. There he comes face to face with the ghost of a diminutive girl who was murdered. Later in the night, he is almost killed. The night changes his life.

He soon begins seeing the ghost, and later learns it was a miniature girl Melissa Montgomery who was slay years ago. Since that time more children have died. As he begins to solve the riddle of the murders, accusations falls to the janitor – a unlit man – a touch very reminiscent of To Extinguish a Mockingbird. Franklie suspects the accusations against the man were deceptive, that it was someone else, someone very conclude to him responsible for the murders.

It’s haunting, atmospheric, but also such a touching family drama, like the running battle Frankie’s grandmother has trying to come by her husband to finish smoking, and the closeness between Frankie and his brother.

Just a touching, shimmering movie that never loses its fascination.

Lady In White is a fair cinematic masterpiece, and one of the greatest scare films ever made. In this haunting, surreal ghost yarn, writer/director/musical composer/costar Frank LaLoggia gives us chills, chuckles, and a extraordinary sense of nostalgia. Fear novelist Frankie Scarlatti (LaLoggia) returns to his shrimp Upstate NY hometown for a visit, where he remembers the Halloween of 1962 – “the year that *she* came into my life.” Ten-year-old Frankie (Lukas Haas) lives a carefree life with his brother, father, and grandparents. On Halloween, Frankie gets locked in his classroom closet by his practical-joking classmates. That night, he sees the ghost of a tiny girl, Melissa (Joelle Jacobi) and a ghostly recreation of her kill. He also sees, but not clearly, her killer, who has reach befriend looking for evidence he left leisurely. The psycho strangles Frankie, and he has a near-death experience, where Melissa’s timorous spirit pleads for him to wait on her secure her mother. Frankie survives the attack, and determines to assist Melissa, having lost his enjoy mother earlier. He learns that several children, in addition to Melissa, have been molested and killed by the same man over a ten-year period. The overzealous DA, anxious to solve the murders, decides to indict an innocent murky janitor, but the Vast Jury won’t catch it. Frankie discovers a link between Melissa, the town madwoman (Katherine Helmond) and the legendary Lady In White – a ghost who supposedly prowls the cliffside every night. What Frankie doesn’t know is that the steady killer is hot on his heels. An advantageous script, terrific ensemble acting, and mammoth special effects accomplish this a truly exquisite, unforgettable movie. This film will be with you for a long time after you ogle it! Though rated PG-13, Lady In White is scarier and more disturbing than most R-rated movies. It is NOT for children under 13. The DVD package is a masterpiece unto itself – the video is a Aesthetic wide-screen transfer, the sound stout and downright 3-dimensional. The print is LaLoggia’s director’s slash and runs 6 minutes longer than the theatrical and videotape versions. Other immense extras include the COMPLETE soundtrack, calm record gallery, seven minutes of deleted scenes, theatrical, TV and radio trailers, and a “Slack the Scenes” featurette. A textbook example of what a DVD release should be. Assume IT!

I visited India (Modern Delhi) three times this summer (and counting..) for business projects, and I was able to discover this movie twice during the course of my flights. With each viewing I smiled and laughed at the scheme the American characters adapted after their first few “transition” days in India, and how the Indian characters earnestly tried to invent them feel welcome.

As a previous reviewer mentioned, the movie doesn’t mention the grittier side of India, such as the gargantuan slum bordering the Mumbai (Bombay) airport, or the muddy, pot-holed, trash-filled streets and sidewalks of every town. However, it does shows the predominantly sweet nature of the Indian people which IMO is one of an India traveler’s best rewards.

Aside, if you are planning to proceed to India for the first time, purchase anti-malaria pills with you, a couple rolls of your current toilet paper, a phone that works in the 091 country code, and an openness of different cultures. Also, sit in the assist seat of your hired car, because the idea out the front will be like a widescreen viewing of the craziest “close-but-no-contact demolition derby” you’ve ever seen. Most, but not all, of these points are implied in the movie.

I recommend watching this movie after your pace, you will probably be pleased the movie more than if you survey it before. If you gape it before your stride, form certain you gawk it again when you regain attend!

This film is not your typical Bollywood although it is region in India. A sweet and insightful film, it looks at the impact of outsourcing, not impartial on Americans but others also as we continue our “hasten to the bottom” economically speaking. In addition the ethnic differences are dealt with humorously but earn a point about how grand we in the U.S. don’t understand other cultures and how enriching it can be to start ourselves up. Throw in a esteem legend (not a chick flick, though), a “hero” that is unbiased an ordinary guy, along with the big plot – both dazzling and painful to explore at times (the conditions of the “lower” castes) – and the movie is very compelling. I fair loved it. Not a “mountainous” as in a “titanic” movie, but stout in the scheme that a miniature, still yet noteworthy film is.

I’ll never forget the first time I saw this movie. The quality I was most struck by was it’s darkness. I was very young & didn’t realise at the time that I was watching one of the best examples in the history of cinema of film noir(nightmare noir even) .Darkness, darkness…even the scenes plot during the day feel dismal. Many of my fellow film lovers have already provided a synopsis so I won’t bother you with yet another. Suffice to say this a superbly acted thriller with pleasing elements of melodrama & a knockout climax. I’ve seen Barbra Stanwyck & Burt Lancaster in SO many films, but this is the one I maintain coming encourage to. Feel the darkness, savor the rain, live the nightmare…

In “Sorry, Inferior Number”, Barbara Stanwyck turns in one of the many memorable performances that made her the Queen of Noir. Leona (Barbara Stanwyck) is the obnoxious daughter of a pharmaceutical magnate, now a demanding invalid wife to Henry Stevenson (Burt Lancaster), who must live every moment to please her. One evening she overhears a telephone conversation between two men plotting a assassinate. Stunned by the call, alone in her big apartment, and increasingly scared when her husband doesn’t near home from work, Leona uses the only means she has to communicate with the outside world: the telephone. She calls everyone she can reflect of to fetch her husband, but what she learns only makes her more anxious as to his fate and her believe.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sorry, Wrong Number! Click Here

“Sorry, Scandalous Number” is based on a accepted radio play by Lucille Fletcher, who also wrote a unique based on the play and the screenplay for this film. Leona’s confinement to her apartment, where her only means of figuring out what is going on is a telephone, is one of the most effective uses of isolation in cinematic history. Leona isn’t a sympathetic character. But her physical and emotional isolation is so palpable that it’s unnerving. She can’t control what’s happening to her. Her insular, dependent lifestyle has left her paranoid. So it’s hard to say if anything is happening to her at all. Is paranoia with justification tranquil paranoia? And who were the mysterious men on the phone talking about? Where is her husband? The fact that the audience doesn’t know the answers to those questions any more than Leona does makes “Sorry, Cross Number” a superior thriller and a masterpiece of empathy in the service of suspense.

The DVD: The only bonus feature is a theatrical trailer. Subtitles are available in English. Dubbing is available in French.

I ordered this ROBIN HOOD after seeing only 2 episodes. I don’t usually do that; I usually read all the customer reviews before making up my mind to purchase something. Why did I jump in so early? This looks like being a classic ROBIN HOOD.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Robin Hood – Season One! Click Here

The pilot and first episode are unbelievable. The pilot retells the familiar sage of how Robin returns from war in the Holy Land and becomes an outlaw, and does so with wit and verve, in good swashbuckling style — and with a beautifully light touch of humor. If you have seen THE PRINCESS BRIDE, you have seen a similar style of humor to that primitive here. But in that movie humor is a gargantuan element of its screech. It is a very little but vital element in the RH pilot.

The first episode turns very gritty; and the humor becomes a distinguished lighter, smaller element. The Sheriff of Nottingham takes over Robin’s venerable estate (like the terrorists took over a Russian school a few years benefit) and starts cutting out people’s tongues — one peasant at a time — in an pains to produce them state him where Robin is. Meanwhile, Robin is having his acquire troubles with the outlaws of Sherwood Forest, who look him as an enemy from the upper class. This is a complex memoir with complex people and very believable motivations.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Robin Hood – Season One! Click Here

The writing is very sharp; the acting is place on. It is aesthetic. Do I have any complaints? Well… I could be a dinky picky and say people really didn’t bathe distinguished attend then; and when the Sheriff says, “Tick, tock, tick, tock…” to explain time is passing and he is getting tired of waiting for someone to boom him what he wants to know… ordinary people didn’t have mechanical clocks aid then. But, hey, this is a chronicle not history. And it is splendid.

I savor this ROBIN HOOD.

If you want a gritty, truly medieval-looking Robin Hood, you won’t get it in this re-imagining. All the elements are in place: Robin Hood, Merry Men, Lady Marian, Sir Guy, the Sheriff of Nottingham. At first the costumes are guaranteed to drive purists crazy. The guys’ shirts gawk like they came from the Sherwood Forest Gap outlet. Sir Guy’s leather duster is moral out of a Western (though hunky Richard Armitage wears it well) . Marian’s costumes are mostly unflattering. Then there are the none-too-subtle novel Bush-Blair political references. Robin Hood as terrorist? Hmm. Lady Marian as a feminist do-gooder? Okay. Maybe she’s meant to be a splendid role model for girls. Apart from Considerable and Puny John, the actors playing Robin, Will Scarlet, and Alan a Dale are practically interchangeable, all too physically similar for any one to stand out. Both Sir Guy and the Sheriff are far more memorable.

All that said, the series steadily improves from the outset. Once you accomplish up your mind to discontinuance looking for realism, the episodes are fun and spellbinding. For a truly imaginative recall on the tale, however, check out “Robin of Sherwood” with Michael Praed as Robin of Loxley, which is finally available in the U.S. on DVD. Once you’ve seen Ray Winstone’s anger-fueled Will Scarlet, you will pity every actor who has taken on the role since.

Winner of the Teddy Award of the 2001 Berlin Film festival and a 2001 Selection of the Sundance Film festival, this is a beautifully realized documentary that is devoted to the stories of those who are satisfied and lesbian within the Jewish Orthodox and Hasidic communities. Their stories and their struggles rupture the viewer’s heart. It shows the lengths that people will go to try to reconcile their Jewish faith with its strictures regarding homosexuality and aloof remain a member of that religious community. Some of the stories are very shaded, but all are, nonetheless, enlightening. People of all faiths should earn it a point to inspect this film, because reconciliation of faith with one’s sexual orientation is not petite to those who profess Judaism. It is a request with which Catholics, as well as those of other faiths, grapple.

Masterfully directed by Sandi Simcha Dubowski, the film boasts a incredible, joyous soundtrack by John Zorn that conjures up the biblical underpinnings and zest of the Jewish faith. The filming of people tedious a white shroud so that they appear as unlit silhouettes against a light backdrop, at times, to prove moments in the religious life of those of the Jewish faith is also striking and very worthy, as well as aesthetically graceful. This was done because so many who participated in this film refused to appear on conceal, so as to avoid ostracism within their respective communities. The final result is visually mesmerizing.

It took the director six years to glean enough people who dared to announce out on film about this disclose. Some of them are out of the closet, but a number of them are not. Some of them, mostly women, are, in fact, married to a member of the opposite sex, despite their sexual orientation, mostly quite unhappily. How awful for all parties concerned, as none have been able to conclude correct communion with their spouses. Yet, many feel that living a lie is the only plan to remain within their religious community, and for them this is preferable to ostracism from the only procedure of life they have ever known. Some have left their religious communities, but that, too, has been a road fraught with personal turmoil, as well as with emotional trauma and worry. Others have stayed legal to their natures, but unexcited try to live a religious life, though they are no longer participating in the religious communities that have rejected them. Some have despaired and felt suicide to be their only alternative.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Trembling Before G-D! Click Here

Some of the advice given to homosexual men by their rabbis so that these men may overcome their “affliction”, for that is how homosexuality is perceived by many in the Orthodox and Hasidic communities, is quite startling. In the Jewish faith. strict construction of biblical texts holds that determined types of sexual intercourse constitutes an abomination. So, homosexual men are encouraged to marry women, despite their sexual orientation. Never mind that such men will also be unlikely to have a proper communion with their wives. Yet, at the same time, many in these religious communities hold that their daughters not marry such men. So there is some visceral, tacit acknowledgment that this is not a recipe for a great marriage. Behavior modification, aversion therapy, and psychotherapy are some of the other weapons the religious community uses to mount their campaign to suitable one’s sexual orientation. Some within these religious communities fill the antiquated opinion that one’s sexual orientation can be changed or sublimated.

The film provides mighty food for concept, and the topic is one that has been previously considered to be taboo. The articulate of homosexuality within religious communities is now one that is ripe for discussion. The director has managed to bring the relate to the forefront in a tasteful, yet plan provoking plot. The director is always mindful of the humanity of those whose stories he is telling. It is a humanity of which those in these religious communities should also be mindful, as all are made in the image of God.

This is a DVD worth having for those who are keen in different cultures or faiths within the form of the vow that the film is exploring. It is a two disc, value laden DVD with crisp visuals and sound. Asides from the usual commentary and theatrical trailers, it has one disc entirely devoted to special features. It discusses the medieval rite of atonement for homosexual acts. It has an panel of prominent rabbis discussing their thoughts on the issues raised by the film. There is a special project in Israel that was established in the wake of this film and a number of panelists discuss their experiences with some of these issues. The director even has a featurette on his grandmother, who seems to be quite a character. All in all, this is a DVD worth having in one’s personal collection. Bravo!

Any documentary dealing with the subject of homosexuality is in anguish of falling into the trap of advocacy for either side, thereby ignoring or demonizing the thinking and the experience of the opposing side. Typically, gays are portrayed as outrageous and shallow hedonists and religious people are portrayed as ignorant and intolerant rubes. This film avoids that trap entirely. It doesn’t editorialize. It doesn’t try to tie up loose ends. It has respect for the religious tradition that has led to the dilemna that the ecstatic individuals are experiencing. It simply uses the camera as an fair spy into the lives of people we might never salvage to know. The conclude of this advance is that we are allowed to inspect on our absorb the tradition and the individuals. As a result, the humanity of everyone is preserved and the value of the tradition is preserved. As a christian, I found the footage of orthodox culture involving. Scenes of yeshivas and orthodox weddings were totally novel to me. This was a portrayal of a world I knew almost nothing about. Leave your knee-jerk reactions late when you belief this film and you will have your experience broadened.

Kung Fu Hustle is among my well-liked films, not because I am a die-hard fan of Stephen Chow, but because I really liked the wild mix of comedy, adventure, crime caper and martial arts action. Most notably the favorable fight choreography by legendary Yuen Woo-Ping(who is also responsible for the fight scenes of End Bill vol. 1, Bold, The Matrix, Hero) . As I said, I worship KUNG FU HUSTLE and am very mighty looking forward for its sequel in 2008, so forgive me if I am a bit biased. (I will try my best not to lose my objectivity)

The Unique “AXE KICKING EDITION” soon to be released by Sony is actually the REGION-3 Hong Kong release which I have. (I am clear) The Hong Kong release is peaceful the one to go for if you have a multi-region dvd player. Since I almost know for positive that only fans of the film will be keen in this unique edition, I will skip the space summary. ( for those of you who haven’t seen it, you may scrutinize up my review under the new U.S. DVD.)

I will go straight to the differences between the previous dvd release and this current “Axe-kicking edition”(novel Hong Kong release) :

Mild spoilers ahead—

Scene 1; The landlady throws her husband out of a window and drops a flower pot that ended up on the encourage of his head. The fresh lop showed a cramped pool of blood coming from his face, but the U.S. version digitally omitted it. The blood now appears as fragment of the film.

Scene 2; State heckles/insults the residents of Pig Sty Alley and gets hit in the tummy by a woman. The recent prick showed Deliver spitting up blood which landed on the woman’s face, but the earlier U.S. version digitally removed the blood (though some calm appeared around Sing’s mouth) . The blood now appears in this release.

Scene 3; This may be more offensive to others; it takes status on the eve of the gargantuan attack on Pig Sty Alley. The Hong Kong reduce showed a man taking a d–p onto a portion of paper as the camera panned by, but the American version digitally removed the offensive feces. Now the paper is no longer blank. “Mr. Poo” makes an appearance!

Scene 4; Exclaim confronts “The Beast” in the casino, he gets hit hard on the chest twice. After the 2nd hit, blood sprays on The Beast’s face and Recount is shown reeling backwards from the force of the punch with blood spurting from his mouth. The U.S. version PREVIOUSLY removed both of these sequential shots.

Scene 5; Also in the casino, Sing’s head is hit on his face, hammered into the ground by The Beast. After the first hit, The Beast’s bloody fist is shown emerging from the floor in expressionless motion…but the U.S. version removed this shot entirely.

Now for the DVD Recount and Sound quality–

2.35 Anamorphic Widescreen. The Characterize is extremely bright with solid Shaded levels. Colors are natural and enhancements are not noticeable. CGI effects suffer a bit of softness. But the transfer is shapely and nice. It is the Hong Kong transfer from what I can convey.

Sound is in 5.1 Dolby/2.0 surround in English, French & Cantonese. I am a bit disappointed why Sony collected didn’t include the Cantonese 5.1 DTS track as in the novel Hong Kong release. Why?!

EXTRAS: Stephen Chow interview–Bloopers/outtakes–Featurettes: w/ Yuen Woo-Ping, Oliver Wong(Production designer), Shirley Wong(Costumes)

Storyboard comparison–trailers–audio commentary

CLOSING: Kung Fu Hustle is one of the more challenging (if not the most fun in 2004) imports. It mixes pop culture blends, over-the-top comedy, hard-hitting action while maintaining a profound respect for the spirit of Kung Fu. This fresh state 1 release is a bit confusing, while it contains the current prick of the film, it misses the unique special features and the much DTS Cantonese Language track. I wouldn’t order a “double dip” for fans who beget the first Place 1 dvd, but for fans who doesn’t contain the movie, retract this novel version up. However, the lack of DTS sound is a immense minus for this version. I Collected rob the New Hong Kong region-3 release!

RECOMMENDED!! (Timidly)

I didn’t know what to seek information from when I went to glimpse “Kung Fu Hustle” in theaters but I’m a mountainous fan of Chinese foreign films and needless to say it exceeded all expectations. It’s a mobster movie like you’ve never seen before residence around the 1930s. The Axe Gang wear nice, care for shaded suits, and after killing some apparent foes in the beginning of the movie the credits point to flashes of the “tough” gangsters doing a unfamiliar sort of dance in unison I couldn’t back but chuckle at with unparalleled delight. At that point I knew this was going to be an tantalizing film and I was absolutely honest. Legends with inhuman powers arise from the unlikeliest of people, crushing the Axe Gang’s superiority and pride of being the “bad-asses” you should panic for your life from. They in turn hire countless assassins to wipe out an entire village but their attempts note futile as the population contains more than honest primitive farmers and housekeepers… I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of “Kung Fu Hustle” (reflect Looney Toons meets Extinguish Bill) and recommend it to anyone who looks for queer, quirky movies that are also brilliant and creative, yet totally out there. The subtitles didn’t even bother me as I win that most films in Chinese sound remarkable better in the modern language verses being horribly dubbed in English (ie-House Of Flying Daggers) .

Whether it’s parading around on stage in a frenzy or breaking out into one of many possible impressions/accents, it simply does not obtain any better than Robin Williams Live when it comes to gut-wrenching laughs.

Williams goes all out in all of his live performances. This particular night he performs live on Broadway (the culmination of a 20+ city national tour, and marking the conclusion of his triumphant, and much-heralded return to the “stage” in over 16 years) . And what is the verdict??? BRILLIANCE!! The same designate of raunchy, charismatic, no holds-barred, yet very lustrous humor Williams has been known for.

ONE THING NEEDS TO BE POINTED OUT: Williams’ energy is unparalleled in his stand-up work and is NOTHING like his theatrical roles (from Flubber to Insomnia), which only seem to stifle the madman lurking beneath. With uncensored, and essentially unscripted stand-up, Robin is able to say his Apt SELF. However, this is not some mindless rant… Williams seems to emerge from a shell he’s been keeping himself in… commentating on social and political issues of the day (from foreign relations, biological warfare, sex, and even sports) .

Sadly, comics today go through “ho-hum” HBO specials like candy (I will not name names), giving audiences and viewers 60-65 minutes. Williams goes non-stop for 2 hours!! And as a result becomes so drenched in sweat by the ruin, you start to wonder how he’s composed standing!

Material-wise, I feel there is no one better, with Williams delivery of quips, jokes, and punchlines only rivaled by George Carlin, and the shows of Eddie Murphy from the early to mid 1980s.

The DVD package, as many other DVDs seem to nowadays, comes with more than anyone could have expected, with behind-the-scenes broadcasts, and a rotund interview with the maestro himself. The record and sound quality are noble and nothing seems to have been lost in the transfer.

Bottomline: though perhaps grievous at some points, I mediate that ANYONE with at least a partially originate mind and a adore for laughs will luxuriate in this movie. Lift it from my mother (a 52 year-old Frenchwoman not necessarily in tune with “hip society”) sitting crying from laughter, “He is the best!”

Robin Williams’ laugh-riot HBO Special is a no-holds-barred comedy classic and a fitting document of the greatest funnyman of our generation. A master of speedily and indignant storytelling and 3-dimensional characters, Williams’ genius is on chubby prove for nearly two hours. The comedian’s charm is evident – he leaps from joke to joke, each bit infused with warmth, irony and his now-trademark stream-of-consciousness dialogue. He draws on contemporary themes and hits every punchline like a concert pianist at the peak of his design. Never before has Williams been so accessible or hysterical and this special guarantees unlimited guffaws and side-splitting routines. He’s sweaty and raunchy, childlike and broken-down all at once. Parents may want to assign this DVD for personal viewing, since some bits are drenched in gross adult humor, though Williams never offends – he gives his all and succeeds. Best of all, the Broadway event gets better on show viewings (rare as that is for comedy) so that like Lucille Ball before him (contemplate grape-stomping, vitavitavegimin and chocolate assembly lines) the bits he delivers renew themselves time and time again. If laughter is lacking in your life, do yourself a favor and employ two hours with the Oscar-winning master of comedy.

That’s what Mr. Cedric Brown (Colin Firth), the widower father of seven children who’d win the team Olympic Gold for mischief-making does. Working at a funeral parlor with two amusing assistants, Mr. Jowl and Mr.Wheen (Derek Jacobi), he relies on nannies to search for after his offspring, but his childrens’ antics are all to drive away the nannies; in the case of Nanny Weston, they compose as if they were eating the youngest, an infant.

Mcphee (Emma Thompson) arrives at the Brown resident one stormy night, and her profile silhouetted outside the door reminds me of the shudder one thinks when Alfred Hitchcock’s profile is shown on his demonstrate. If the Faulty Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz and Mary Poppins were thrown together, one would gather Nanny McPhee. She’s clearly no beauty, as she has two warts on her face, a swollen nose, and a tooth that hangs over her lower lip. She also carries a zigzag staff which she taps on the floor in order to conjure magic.

She wastes no time in getting the kids good, especially in a scene where the children have invaded the kitchen in defiance of their father punishing them. Her blueprint is akin to forcing a PS2 junkie to hold playing games until he either gets bleeding controller blisters or his eyes pop out of his skull. Result, he’ll have had enough.

Brown is glad that her only conditions are that she declare his rambunctious kids five lessons and that she requires Sunday afternoons off. The lessons include saying please and thank you, going to bed on time, getting up on time, and doing what they’re told. And mysteriously, when one of the lessons are learned, her warts move until…

Brown though is quite ineffectual in enforcing discipline in the household, as he is wishy-washy and too busy at his job. It’s positive that the death of his wife, whom he level-headed talks to via the empty chair she passe to sit in, is tranquil affecting him. His oldest, Simon says that he doesn’t care about or use time with them like he did when their mother was alive. But he is living off an allowance from his forbidding Aunt Adelaide, and if he doesn’t marry by the ruin of the month, she’ll cleave him off. The children will be sent to foster homes or attach to work in the workhouses. He’s desperate enough to resolve Selma Swiftly, a disreputable and loudmouthed woman whose taste in colours are a garish dayglo fuschia and green, as a prospective original wife. Why not Evangeline, the scullery maid who’s learning to read and is concerned about the children?

Three performers from Care For Actually are reunited. They are Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, and Thomas Sangster, who played Liam Neeson’s son. Thompson provides the film’s sole center of stability and rationality, a soothing dissimilarity to the stiff eccentricity of Angela Lansbury’s Aunt Adelaide, and Celia Imry’s improper Hasty.

McPhee’s five lessons are values that seem to have been lost on the kids of today’s era. In fact, they seem to have more in favorite with the wild jungle mentality the Brown children have in the beginning. She tells her charges: “When you need me, but do not want me, then I will quit. When you want me, but do not need me, then I have to go.” Nanny McPhee effectively joins the ranks of Mary Poppins and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in instilling righteous manners and values in children.

I saw this movie 10 minutes ago in a hotel room. Immediately, I go to Amazon.com to seek if I can seize it. This is how suitable the movie is. You want to possess it and sight it again and again. The narrative is proper (no doubt, if you have read the book) . The director is wonderful. Unprejudiced like it. Highly recommended.
