I fill almost all of these Fantastic, Stunning, Unbelievable PANORAMA FILMS of Europe. Now they arrive as a dwelling with newly released DVDs included that don’t seem (as yet) to be available separately. “Visions of Austria” and “Visions of the Immense Cities of Europe” are original additions to the formerly available “Visions of Series.”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Visions of Europe! Click Here

All of the DVDs enjoy the same extraordinary helicopter HD filming that has made them the travelogue, documentary, or scenic film footage that everyone else strives for. The pictures are dynamic, striking, exhilarating, and wonderfully relaxing at the same time.

I have visited all but 2 of the countries available in this station and can honestly say that you salvage a more complete understanding of the countries from these DVDs than you do from the ground, even in person. One can even zoom in using the remote for a closer inspect, often unnecessary. The helicopter cameraman zooms aplenty, and pans when that best suits. The footage cannot be given negative notation of any kind.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Visions of Europe! Click Here

Each DVD comes with a feature presentation, complete with background music of the country. The music is as reliable as the camera work. It is always a mix of classical to folk, soothing to danceable, some instrumental, some vocal. All radiant.

Each DVDs feature is narrated by someone with the pleasing accent of the country. The historical, and educational information related as you examine the country pass beneath your opinion is pleasant enough for any classroom, elementary through college. So the area becomes not fair an scrumptious move documentation but also a splendid additional of any European educational experience. You will peer and learn of the extinct to the ultra-modern aspects of each country, and many major cities. Even some quaint out-of-the-way places. Sometimes they are the picturesque best.

Each DVD also has extra footage which contains no narration but does have the music background, perfect for waiting room TV play.

This dwelling contains 930 minutes of the most dramatic film footage of Europe that I have ever seen, or ever will eye. After seeing “Visions of Series” there’s no reason to acquire any other.

COST EFFECTIVE. Yes, this plot, for those who do not beget any of the previous released sets, is offered at less than half the trace of individual purchases. Win them this procedure, because, once you have seen one DVD, you will desire all of them. They are a perfect, absolute must, dwelling to gaze for anyone planning a coast to Europe. Witness ahead of time what you want to gaze on foot, and attach thousands of dollars in go time by shimmering ahead of time your most-desired destinations.

I wish I could personally thank the helicopter pilots, camera crew, musicians, and narrators for these “Visions of Series” and their exquisite high definition productions. Yes there is more, like “Visions of Britain and Ireland”. Scotland. Wales.

If you loved Anthony Quinn in “Zorba”, you will worship him in “The Secret of Santa Vittoria”. This gem from 1969 is a serio-comic eye at the Nazi’s occupation of a itsy-bitsy mountain village in Italy during WWII.

The people of Santa Vittoria have a worship, and it is so dear to them, they will protect it at tremendous lengths. The love… well over a million bottles of the special wine, the minute town of grape growers produces to deal with the “Cinzano” wine company. This business is all they have to withhold their puny city alive.

Having unbiased learned from Fabio, the only University student from Santa Vittoria, the the Fascist regime has unprejudiced fallen, the villagers now learn of a recent quandary..The Nazi’s will be coming to enjoy their cramped town, and more specifically, they will be confiscating the wine.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Secret of Santa Vittoria! Click Here

They turn to the newly appointed, and constantly drunk Mayor..Italio Bombolini(Quinn) . How can these simple people outfox the Germans? Where, Mathamatically, can they shroud a million bottles of wine? And how will they disappear it all? Watching it all near together is a animated, exciting and fun opinion.

Bombolini is the perect name for this bumbling fool. It is an absolute thrill to gawk this performance of Quinn’s, as he turns from the town clown to a hero of substantial like. His antics will have you laughing out loud, his loyalty to his people will paste a smile on your face, and his bravery as he stands alone against the Nazi’s threats and retaliations will have you rooting for him and Santa Vittoria all the scheme. We are even treated to a bit of his improbable dance. Quinn is not alone in making this film a must watch, Anna Magnani adds her special talents as well. She is radiant as Rosa Bombolini, the long suffering wife of the town clown. When it comes to Italio, her tounge is as consuming as her aim, as Quinn ducks the insults and the pots and pans coming his contrivance as well. Virna Lisi adds her beauty and turns in a extraordinary performance as the “Contessa” and Directed by the substantial Stanley Kramer, it is simply perfection. The cinematogrpahy and the music by Ernest Gold(nominated for an Oscar) also add greatly to the total feel of the chronicle.

The comedy is improbable, but there is also a serious side. The petite town must execute sacrifices, as they are also subjected to the brutalities of the war.

The film, by the draw, took home a Golden Globe for Best Motion Describe(Musical/Comedy) . At nearly two and half hours,it’s a feel ample film, and I didn’t want it to ruin. Hopefully this film will be restored and transfered to DVD soon. In the meantime, try and get it on Turner, or examine for a capable deal on the VHS.

Get the pasta (or popcorn) and a glass of wine, and indulge in Italy for a while!…..Laurie

I saw this film in the 70s and it detached remains with me. It’s World War II and an Italian village noted for its wine is celebrating the overthrow of Mussolini’s government. Villagers arrest the local fascist officials and, in a amusing mood, elect the town drunk Bombalini, played brilliantly by Anthony Quinn, to be mayor. Later the party is scandalous when German army go in to contain the territory. The occupiers want to purchase the village wine supply and send it to Germany for the enjoyment of the Nazi officer troops. Bombalini must now rise to the challenge of taking his job seriously in order to outsmart the Germans and protect the wine — his town’s livelihood. This is a charming and though-provoking myth and telling of Italian ingenuity. Other cast members are Giancarlo Giannini and Sergio Franchi.

This is such a fun movie and I really enjoyed the commentary with Tim Burton and Paul Reubens.

I loved Pee Wee as a child and had both this movie and Spacious Top Pee Wee on VHS. I aloof know both of them by heart and wanted to effect definite that my kids had these movies too. I read the reviews about the movie being cleave during editing and I contemplate the reviews were ridiculous. If you were to actually sight at the movie speed times, the older version was 92 minutes compared to this dvd running for 90 minutes. I dont believe 2 whole minutes of limited cuts summed up changed the movie. I would have never noticed had I not had been looking for them because of the reviews I had read. There were some bloopers that were corrected though. We obsolete to fetch a kick out of seeing Pee Wee pull the chain out of his bike but being able to gawk the chain coming up thru the bottom. This was corrected, but not to inconvenience, there are unruffled some of the mountainous mess ups that contributed to the greatness of this masterpiece. Pee Wee may be a pervert, but if you did not fancy this movie growing up, then you could not have been a pleased child.

National Velvet is a classic film, scrumptious and involving for the whole family. I give the film itself 5 stars for this reason alone. They impartial don’t do ‘em like this anymore!!!

…And now for the true nitty gritty…Warner (and previously MGM DVD) should be ashamed of themselves for putting out such an detestable transfer of this enormous Technicolor classic! While the colors reveal up well in most of the film, the main predicament with this DVD is that the source print was VERY DIRTY!!!!

Expect to examine PLENTY of scratches, dust, and out-of-focus shots throughout the 124 cramped running time.

Buy,Download, Or Stream National Velvet! Click Here

Overall, this is a complete disgrace because Turner Classic Movies runs a fantastically restored PRISTINE print of National Velvet on their network…free of scratches and dust.

Also, I have another word to the folks at Warner: LOSE THE CHEAPIE SNAPPER CASE PACKAGING!!! AMARAY Support CASE ALL THE Plot!!!

5 stars for the film….1 star for the lousy treatment on DVD!!!

This is another of those classic horse movies that is Collected tremendous today! I have seen it a hundred times, and I calm devour it unprejudiced as remarkable as the first time. :)

Buy,Download, Or Stream National Velvet! Click Here

The account is basically a unpleasant, horse-crazy girl named Velvet Brown (Elizabeth Taylor) ends up with an unruly, but talented horse she calls The Pie. He’s known for jumping out of pastures and being a nuisance! A young boy (Mickey Rooney) ends up staying with her family for awhile, to relieve out with the family business. He happens to know about horses and helps Velvet explain The Pie. They destroy up entering the horse in the most prestigious steeplechase event in the world, the Spacious National. The rest I’ll maintain a secret!

The legend is so heart warming and special… the characters are comic and sympathetic. The acting is good! A very young Angela Landsbury has a portion as Velvet’s glorious older sister! And the bustle at the waste is unprejudiced colorful – you really can’t encourage but cheer The Pie on – to this day I glean myself standing up and screaming along as he is leaping over those fences!

The movie followed the basic tale of the book, but as with most movies they had to leave a lot out. The book is a classic in its absorb factual though, and well worth reading if you haven’t already. The record is so consuming and fun, its one I will never forget. I highly recommend seeing this movie, even if you’re not a horse fanatic. :)

Jean (Jean Gabin), a deserting soldier, emerges out the darkness as an approaching truck’s lights crop through the night. The truck driver offers Jean a stagger which he gladly accepts as he is weary from his long hotfoot away from his murky past in the French military, a past that Jean wants to hurry as it brings him distress and anxiousness, which haunts his restless mind. Weariness and poor memories brings Jean into a foggy world where he drifts between sleep and awareness while the truck is traveling in the direction of the French port city of Le Havre, which is equally foggy and burly of threats.

Hopeful, Jean arrives to Le Havre where he intends to come by a unique beginning to his life, and where he can discard his past. A port city offers several opportunities for a person such as Jean to embark on recent journeys as the port is elephantine of ships leaving each day for recent destinations. Through the aid of some strangers that Jean meets at a primitive down tavern he begins to fetch a light, which could back guide him assist on track to a original life. However, the fog remains as Jean’s destiny has different plans for him as his marvelous nature seems to affect the people he meets.

Port of Shadows is a poetic visualization of a realistic account, which Carne gave a magic touch to by using visual signs to enhance the cinematic experience. These signs have a symbolic value for the audience as it offers cerebral participation in the film, which can be pondered for some time. The symbolism of the fog and consume of a port city has a profound carry out on the films cinematic value as it may causes some cognitive dissonance as both coexist and could be associated with opposite notions. An example of this symbolic antagonism for the fog and the port is the freedom of a port and the barrier of the fog. An analogy can be drawn the antagonism between the fog and the port to Jean’s ambiguous character who is edifying, yet safe of violence.

Port of Shadows is a much film based on a current by Pierre Mac Orlan that does not leave anyone untouched regardless of background or creed. The sage depicts elements of human ambiguity, crime, and fancy, which is elevated with sparkling cinematography and direction. The cinematography uses several close-ups and zoom-outs in order to bring the characters feelings to the audience, which enhances the visual experience of the obliging cast. In the slay the audience will have experienced a most intelligent cinematic event.

Very great akin to Visconti’s Ossessione made a few years later, Le Quai Des Brumes is a typically French noirish portrayal of the underbelly of society, with friendly Jean Gabin in the role of a disillusioned Foreign Legion deserter torn apart between fleeing the country for righteous and defending his romantic interest from a host of seedy underworld characters. Irresistibly fatalistic.

Even though the reviews of this film were almost universally raves, I wouldn’t have gone to peek it. But a friend wanted to go, so I went along. And I’m truly overjoyed I did. This is not like any documentary (particularly of a Hollywood indispensable) I’ve ever seen. For those of us who peek A & E Biography to get tidbits of unknown information about “the notorious,” The Kid Stays in the Describe is a world apart, a completely refreshing hold on biographical film-making.

What sets this film apart is its honesty. Evans’s narration is self-deprecating, self-mocking, truthful and utterly unpretentious. The combination of TV and film clips, stills with subtle bits of animation (cigarette smoking rising from the surface of a photo) and the voiceover explanations of how some of Evans’s films came to be is nothing less than compelling. It’s also very, very amusing. One significant description is of Frank Sinatra’s ultimatum to Mia Farrow during the filming of the groundbreaking Rosemary’s Baby. Either Mia finished the describe on day X or she could forget about coming home. How Evans schmoozed Mia into completing the characterize is a spacious combination of sparkling hard-sell and appeal to the actress’s ego. There are similar tales about how Coppola came to be the director of The Godfather.

Without copping any attitude, with painting any piece of his career in pastels, Evans comes across as a shimmering fellow with a huge feeling for the books that effect fine movies. And the final scene, with Dustin Hoffman doing a long impersonation of Evans while the demolish credits hurry is absolutely hilarious.

If you have any interest in film-making, or want to know about a legendary Hollywood producer, or simply wish to stare one swell documentary, gaze this movie. It’s one of a kind.

Highly recommended.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Kid Stays in the Picture! Click Here

Maybe the most moving documentary ever made. Sparkling style is obsolete in telling the epic of one of the giants of the movie industry, producer Robert Evans. Giving magical illumination and motion to collected pictures in a blueprint that I could only characterize as psychedelic.

Being a film fanatic for the last 43 years I was stunned and ashamed to acquire that I had not heard of Robert Evans. In all my reading of credits over the years I had somehow missed his name. I had remembered seeing William Castle’s name at the beginning of Rosemary’s Baby but not Evan’s. Then, at finding out that he was the driving force slack Appreciate Sage, The Godfather, The Godfather Pt.2, Chinatown and one of my personal favorites The President’s Analyst and that he was a broad reason why those movies were so first-rate, well I was fair dumbfounded. And these are impartial a fragment of the films he’s produced.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Kid Stays in the Picture! Click Here

Of course he didn’t inaugurate as a producer. He had been in women’s apparel with his brother and accredited their endeavours as the reason why women wear pants today. While lounging around a pool one day he was discovered by Norma Shearer, lauching his career into expose biz. It seems he knows everybody and I mean everybody.

After watchng this amazing film I called my father to ask him if he had ever heard of this unbelievable personality. I queried, “Have you ever heard of Robert Evans? ” anxiously awaiting a “No” so I could enlighten him all about this unbelievable demonstrate biz entity. He replied, “You mean Bob Evans.” Yes indeed, it seems he knows EVERYBODY. My father had near across him in his days as a buyer for Macy’s. I asked, “Do you know what he does now? ” “He’s some sort of movie director or something now, isn’t he.”, Dad answered. I bought him the audiobook.

Evans narrates both the documentary and the audiobook, both which are drawn from his autobiograghy by the same name. His stammer is almost as wonderful as his chronicle and probably greatly enabled his prowess. He also lent his grunt to the short-lived, hysterically irreverent cartoon series Kid Noted that detached airs on Comedy Central.

All in all, whether you know Evans or not this is a enchanting, beautifully made film about a producer whose achievements are arguably greater than Thalberg’s and Selznick’s combined. The anecdote of his life and loves is the stuff of legends and it goes on and on. This is a must gawk for anyone alive to in Tinseltown. PS:I don’t usually care for the added features but these are worthwhile and the credits to the main fraction of the documentary are alone worth the heed of the disc. What a hoot and more proof that he knows everybody. Ask your dad. Who knows?

Superb casting of Jessica Tandy as a stubborn elderly Southern woman of privilege and Morgan Freeman as her valid and genuine and patient chauffeur makes this one of the best dramas and character studies of all time. Tandy won an Oscar for this 1989 performance and Freeman was nominated for one. This is a movie of astounding bright characters, people who point to sassiness, independence, tolerance, admiration, and respect for each other – but only after a few years of working together. It all started when Miss Daisy crashed her car and her son, Dan Aykroyd, a pompous banker type, declared she absolutely could drive no more. So he hired a chauffeur for her. At first, all the extinct Southern prejudices came into opinion, prejudices of class, bustle, and education. But gradually the wisdom and aloof patience of Freeman’s character won her over.

At its core, this is the sage of an unlikely friendship that shows it’s possible to transcend prejudice and savor the human being within.

Highest marks.

Driving Miss Daisy is one of my all-time favorites. I bought the Special Edition widescreen DVD (ISBN 0-7907-7237-X, UPC 0-85392-33402-5) and was horribly disappointed. It shows less characterize than does my ancient fullscreen VHS tape (and I seem to be the only one who has noticed)! Although the image is with a widescreen aspect ratio, the left & upright sides of the report do not extend beyond those of the VHS. And the top & bottom letterbox unlit bars on the DVD image are actually covering up parts of the recount that I can ogle on the VHS. In other words, THE Portray BETWEEN WIDESCREEN DVD AND FULLSCREEN VHS IS IDENTICAL, EXCEPT THAT THE DVD HAS Dusky BARS LITERALLY COVERING UP THE TOP & BOTTOM. For instance, at the slay of the movie, the VHS tape clearly shows Miss Daisy’s hand fumbling with the fork, and her cut of pie sitting there on the table. On the widescreen DVD, this is all covered up by the bottom dusky bar, so all you survey of the pie is the few bites that Hoke raises (out of the void) to Miss Daisy’s mouth. The touching scene is completely ruined. I’m not exactly obvious what’s up with this pseudo-widescreen version, but it stinks.

Fans of 60’s science fiction will appreciation the deluxe terrific reissue of “Wonderful Voyage” attach out by Fox. While very worthy a product of the mid-60’s, “Astounding Voyage” holds up surprisingly well in fair about every status. I doubt that fans need a recap of the location but I have one at the raze of this review if you’re enthusiastic.

First up we accept a ticket original splendid looking transfer for the film. It isn’t perfect but it couldn’t be because of the source material. Some shots appear soft and a bit blurry due to the process photography/visual effects added to shots but that’s unavoidable and fairly typical of films from this time before digital video. Colors are daring and as vivid as I remember them.

Unlike the previous release we earn some really expedient extras as well. The featurette on visual effects has Richard Edlund (”Cessation Encounters”, “Blade Runner”) discussing the inconvenience of shooting a visual effects film like “Unbelievable Voyage” in 1965 (it was releasedin 1966) . Like “Forbidden Planet”, “Improbable Voyage” pushed the barrier of visual effects for its times something NOT appreciated by a lot of viewers. Edlund points out that building the Proetus both in rotund size and limited allowed director Richard Flesicher opportunities that most directors wouldn’t have in being flexible in his shooting. Also, the Proetus elephantine scale exterior had an interior residence mimicing the location for the inside of the ship which allowed them to shoot through the windows and not exertion about having to do mattes as often creating a convincing environment.

We also collect an isolated music glean with a commentary track as well featuring Slash Redman, Jon Burlingame and Jeff Bond discussing Leonard Rosenman’s fine music glean. They are collected about 40 minutes in when Rosenman’s bag kicks in but the first 40 minutes these music/film historians focus on everything from the casting, to bits of trivia about the shooting of the film. We also catch storyboard to film comparison of the whirlpool scene as well as a deleted scene from the script with storyboard illustrations. The electronic press booklet includes the fresh press booklet. My only complaint is its a bit too tiny to read at times even on a great camouflage TV but otherwise looks quite fine. We also find some of the movie-tie-in’s including a mention of Isaac Asimov’s modern adapted from the script (where he fixed some of the holes in the script and science gaffs) . We win lobby cards, posters, radio and TV ads as well as the recent theatrical trailer. The interactive piece of the gallery also allows us a 360 conception of the 5 foot model of the Proetus as well as its smaller (objective a couple of inches) version primitive for long shots and designed for visual effects mattes.

Fox has done a very nice job on this 40th Anniversary Edition (even if it is a year slow) of this classic Science Fiction film. Definite, the dialogue is occasionally awkward but it’s a film very noteworthy of its time and holds up remarkably well with strong performances by Stephen Boyd, Donald Pleasance (in one of his first roles as a villain), Arthur Kennedy, Raquel Welch and others.

Plot: Situation during the Cool War, Grant (Stephen Boyd) is called in to escort Jan Benes (Jean Del Val) a man with information primary to the safety and security of the United States. When their motorcade is attacked, Benes is injured and goes into a coma. Grant is again recruited this time to accompany a team of a surgeon (Arthur Kennedy), government doctor (Donald Pleasance), nurse (Raquel Welch) and Navy pilot (William Redfield) on a promenade of dinky proportions. They are going to be miniaturized be injected into Benes and disappear in a state-of-the-art sub called the Proteus to demolish the blood clot threatening Benes life. Complications arise, however, when it appears they may have a saboteur in their midst.

After all these years, it’s black to look what science fiction has become. There was a time when sci-fi movies had a modicum of “sci” in them, not to mention vivid storylines and suspenseful situations that rose directly out of the premise. The science in FV is sound–the makers of the film did their sophomore biology homework, as well as their basic physics homework.I present this to my grade-school students, as an example of ‘good science fiction’, and as an consuming portion of learning about various body systems. The visual effects are breathtaking and unexcited convincing, even in this era of CGI.Lots of fun!
